The Island Inn is a true gem on Sanibel Island! We stayed in the hotel and our room was lovely- clean, modern, beautiful view of the ocean and beach in the distance. We enjoyed the free continental breakfast each morning and had a delicious dinner in their restaurant at night. We visited during what is considered their "off-season" which was mid-July so it was pretty quiet. If you are into shell collecting, the beach nearest this hotel is perfect!

Room Tip: We had a room on the end of the building, which was nice, we never heard any of our neighbors.

Stayed in the Beach House with 4 other woman for a long weekend. We stayed April 2012 and will be back in April 2013 with the whole gang. The house was a perfect fit for all of us, clean, cozy and close to the beach. The kitchen is o.k. and useable, but not stocked all that great with supplies. It really didn't matter because we only did a little cooking. The convenience of the hotel restaurant was great. We ate there a couple of nights because it was so easy. The food is great too, and I think the only place for real waterfront dining. The staff was very accommodating and extremely kind. Looking forward to returning next year.

Thank you for staying at the Island Inn and booking your stay for 2013!

As for the kitchen in the Beach House, you are in for a really nice surprise when you return in April. I won’t go into full details, but think remodel!

As for your comments concerning the restaurant, you are 100% accurate. Its' truly special location is matched only by the amazing dishes Chef creates every night.

Thank you again for your stay and we will be eagerly anticipating your arrival in April! :-)

We booked this hotel for a three-night stay in September after getting a fantastic price on airfare from NY. We landed in the morning and decided to call and ask if our room was ready, and it was around 11:30. We stayed in a Gulf view suite in the Kimball Lodge which was just charming. The room was very clean and all the usual hotel amenities provided (even two suit case racks, which seems like nothing, but I have never had a hotel think of this before). The mini-kitchen was great to be able to keep food in the refrigerator - it avoided us having to leave and go out for lunch because we were able to buy groceries. The screened-in balcony is also a great feature and provides a perfect view of the Gulf, and some relief from the bugs in the evening. While at the beach during the day, it seemed like no one else was around except for the birds. Chairs and beach towels are provided also. The staff at the front desk were very helpful and kind in answering any of our questions about getting around the island and the housekeeping staff were very friendly as well.

The resort is located in the middle of the island which makes it an ideal location to get to the Wildlife Refuge and all of the restaurants. We had dinner at Traditions on our first night and it was great. The continental breakfast is also a nice part of the stay. If I had to make only one suggestion about the entire experience, it would be to provide some breads at the breakfast (bagels, english muffins, toaster, etc.). The fruit, pastries, and hardboiled eggs were all fresh and wonderful, though. As it is apparently the only Inn on the island to provide breakfast, it was a great convenience.

The Island Inn made our first experience to Sanibel wonderful and we look forward to returning!

Room Tip: Request the rooms with at least a refrigerator. We found it to be more relaxing to not have to run o...

We booked this last minute for 1 night, on labor day. We arrived early 11:30 am and our room was not ready. Lady at the front Desk was a bit unfriendly about it. They did take our cell phone # and called us when it was ready. Which was about 1:30pm. Then the lady at the front desk was much more friendly. Meanwhile we discovered the restaurant on the premises had closed for the season, also many on the island had also. So while waiting for the room we searched out possibilites for lunch and dinner. We found a Supermarket with a wonderful deli. So we purchased enough for lunch and dinner. Headed back to the Inn to eat lunch and await our room. They have several picnic areas near the beach. They are a little worn, but worked.
By then our room was ready, we changed into our swimwear and headed out to the beach for some shelling and hung out by the pool. The room was very nice, we were on the ground floor, in the Kimball lodge. Screened in porch was wonderful. Especially in the evening. The no-seeums are awful. The beach and pool were really deserted. By sunset there were a few people out on the deck to watch the suset. Maybe 8 people.
Very peaceful, and quiet. If your looking for nightlife, this is not the place for you. Would be great for a romantic getaway, or for a group.

Room Tip: The Kimball lodge

Thank you for your review and stay at the Island Inn.

I’m sorry your initial interaction with our front desk staff was not 100% pleasant. Labor Day weekend is a very busy/stressful time, but this is absolutely no excuse. Regardless, I’m glad we were able to get you checked in early, since check in time is 3:00 pm.

The supermarket you speak of is Baileys… they have a wonderful prepared foods section and many of our guests take advantage of their market by stocking up their refrigerators in their rooms/cottages.

Your comments concerning nightlife are certainly true. Although our restaurant, bar and lounge is usually the most happening place on the island, Sanibel in general is a very relaxed, peaceful destination.

Thank you again for your stay and review. I hope you will be able to make it back to Sanibel Island soon! :-)

This was my third year at the island Inn ,we stayed 9 days, instead of just 7.
i love Sanibel, there is no place in the world like Sanibel.
And the island inn is the perfect place to stay,
It is so beautiful and peaceful, sits direct on the ocean .
I love the place, love the people that run the place, the girls in the office are not only always helpful, but they are always friendly, but who wouldn't be, when your job is to work on an island.
The rooms are roomy the beds comfy.
The breakfast is fresh every morning, baked fresh pastries, the only thing i must say I missed this year was my oatmeal, but other than that it was good
I am sure my next trip to Sanibel will be to the island inn again

Room Tip: Our favorit is the mathews lodge,a little older ,but it faces the ocean and you can sit on your deck...

Loved this place.. very quiet. Transitions Restaurant was wonderful. Very nicely appointed. I would visit again without hesitation. Voices and doors closing could be heard very easily while in your room... but really, be honest, how much time are you going to spend in your room when you have such beautiful surroundings?
