“Great location next to beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013 via mobile

Our unit overlooked the beach with a screened balcony at the front and an open balcony at the side overlooking Palm trees towards the beach. We spent our time between the beach and pool and found the water very warm in both. We saw a dolphin one day when we were in swimming and a stingray another which I managed to avoid. Found the pool area fine with plenty of loungers. We have stayed at other apartments in Sanibel just along the beach which were fine but the unit at Loggerhead was probably a bit more spacious and we would stay again.

Loggerhead Cay Unit #264 was great!! Beach towels, toys, chairs, umbrella, shelling equipment provided. Very nice and clean 2 bedroom 2 bath unit on top floor with washer & dryer and everything else you could ask for. The owner was super!

We stayed in unit 283. This is in the 2nd building from the main entrance. The view is of the garden/courtyard. Its about 3 more buildings (maybe 4) to the beach. This unit has no beach view and no pool view. We stayed here in April 2013 just 1 couple.

Its a 2 bed 2 bath. The master bedroom does not have walls on 2 sides. It louvered doors separating the living room and the balcony. Which does not allow for a lot of quiet if someone is watching TV in the living room. But if you open the doors it makes the unit more open and you can see out to the garden/courtyard from the master bedroom.

The unit had everything we needed - kitchen (very dated appliances) washer and dryer. Living room with nice TV and a tv in the master and 2nd bedroom (2 twin beds).

The pans in the unit were garbage - also the pans and silverware were a bit dirty with old food - we had to wash everything before we used it (more like scrub everything). I told both the owner of the unit and Royal Shell Management about this - at check out.

The complex seemed very family friendly and a good location. I would rent here again. But I would also like to try and get a unit with a better view.

Unit 283 is advertised at a "penthouse" - I thought that meant it would be top floor and more spaceous. The truth is - its a corner unit with vaulted ceilings on the 3rd floor. There is some 4th floor units in the middle but not above the corner units. Its a bit misleading calling it a "penthouse". But the vaulted ceilings did make it feel a bit larger.

The air conditioning worked well - and I only used the pool one day and the water temp was just fine. My only concern about the pool is - if the complex is busy with guests - the pool seems on the smaller side - but since the beach is so close why use the pool any way?

Room Tip: do not be mislead by the "penthouse" term and dont pay extra for that.

We stayed at this complex March 2013. It was essentially what we were expecting. We enjoyed the layout of the complex, the easy stroll to the beach and the proximity to several restaurants and shopping. However, prior to our arrival I had read reports on the forum of the pool being cold here so I emailed info@loggerhead.com and specifically addressed that I was considering renting at their complex however I had read other reviews that they advertise a heated pool but their pool was known for being cold. To which they responded that their pool was maintained at 86 degrees.

Well....when we arrived the pool was FREEZING!!!!! They claimed the heater broke a week earlier and they were at the mercy of the pool repair company. We arrived on a Saturday, it was supposedly repaired the following Friday but the water was still very cold Friday afternoon. Considering we had to checkout by 10:00am the next day we never got to enjoy the pool our entire week here. One of the reasons we chose this complex was because it has one of the biggest pools on the island. I was also disappointed there was a solar cover by the pool that could have been but on in the evening to hold in some warmth to the pool at night but management only put it on one night the entire week.

We loved Sanibel and will be retuning in July but have decided to stay at a different complex in July.

We just returned from a week long stay. Last year we stayed at a smaller condo more in the middle of the island and had a much better experience. On the plus side the condo was clean and well appointed. But there was one big inconvenience that we weren't made aware of until a few days before our departure. They were repaving the parking lot for an entire half of the complex, so we had to park on the opposite side of our unit, leaving a several hundred yard walk to and from the car. On one occasion there was no parking and we were told to park in a city lot adjacent to the facility but at the risk of being towed. Great solution. It would have been nice if we were compensated for this inconvenience, but no offer was made.
The place was also loud. In the morning it was the lawn maintenance workers with the leaf blowers, which they used on the courtyard walkways and the walkways right outside the doorways (we were on the 2nd floor), filling the condo with obnoxious noise and lingering gasoline smells. Nighttime noise from other guests was also a problem more nights than not. They have a "strict" quiet time policy after hours but it's not enforced and my wife had to confront an especially loud neighbor after 11pm on our final night.
The pool was large and clean, but it's not good for little children because it's almost 4ft at it's shallowest depth so we had to hover around the small steps in the corner.
The Sanibel beaches and shops helped overcome the disappointment of this place. We'll be going back there, but we'll look for another complex in the future.

I have stayed at three different condos at Loggerhead Cay over the past 6 years.
I go through personal rentals on VRBO or Vacation Rentals.com.
The price is usually more reasonable than a rental agency.
Each is personally owned, not a timeshare. Some owners keep their condo nicer than others. But overall it has been a great experience. Good location, feels safe. Easy walk to beach. Pool, grills, tennis available. The condos are larger then many of the new ones. I stayed once at Shell island Beach club and theirs are tiny compared to Loggerhead. I feel more at home here. Each condo is decorated by the owners. I highly recommend this location.

Room Tip: First floor is nice because you can walk right out the lanai to go to the beach or pool.

We stayed for a week in late October in a ground-floor unit (531). This was our first stay at Loggerhead Cay. The condo was clean and nicely furnished (although not recently updated). We opted for a ground-floor unit instead of a more recently updated higher floor unit, since we were traveling with our small dog. The unit had two bedrooms, two baths, a large kitchen and dining area, living area, a washer and dryer, and a nice screened porch with access to the courtyard. The short walk to the beach was perfect for catching the sunrises and sunsets. Each unit had a specific parking spot. It is a little different staying in a rental unit versus a hotel-like condo, no daily housekeeping, no umbrellas or chairs set up on the beach, and the rental agency was off site. We did have extra towels and a starter set of paper goods, soaps, dish detergent, etc. The grounds were well kept and beautifully landscaped. Although we did not use the pool, it looked nice. The area was quiet and it was easy to access shopping and restaurants. I would definitely consider staying here again.

Room Tip: Definitely view your specific condo and location before booking to get an idea of what to expect.
