“A little slice of paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2012

Third visit to Sanibel, first time to Casa Ybel - a place we hope to return to again and again. We did a LOT of research on the various 'beachfront' resorts prior to our visit and finally decided on Casa Ybel, now we are grateful we did! We will be posting a number of vids on YouTube from our trip so you can see for yourself, but the fact of the matter is that this place is right on the beach and it's awesome

TIPS:
a) EVERY unit has a nice screened patio that looks out on the ocean.
b) The walk to the beach is very short and if you request one of the outer buildings, it's like having your own private beach because it's not crowded.
c) the pool area is really quite large for the size of resort and pool area they have a lot of pool floats that you can use for free to just relax
d) coconuts is the pool bar. they have happy hour from 3-5pm where you can get drafts for $2.50!
e) FREE Parking!
f) NO resort fees!
g) $30/day to rent 2 beach chairs and an umbrella - they set it up before 9am and take down after 5pm. Its worth it
h) amazing shelling on the beach and because not crowded you can get lots of good shells. they also have shell cleaning stations for you
i) rooms are larger than I thought they would be. great to have a full kitchen. they have all the dishes and appliances you would need including coffee maker, microwave, oven, full size fridge, and even a can opener (great when you brought beer but forgot the opener!). beds very comfortable, even the pullout mattress was comfortable (no bar in your back!)
j) friendly staff
k) did NOT get nickel and dimed to death like at most resort properties - like I said, no parking fees, no 'resort' fees, the ONLY thing we paid extra for on our final bill was just the cost to rent the beach chairs/umbrella and that was our choice and not something you 'have' to do if you don't want to.
l) great location, centrally located, with a lot of shops and eateries close by on periwkindle drive
m) large gas grills available in front of each unit, free to use
n) the 'first floor' units are actually on 2nd floor because buildings are elevated so if you have toddlers request first floor or else you will have to climb TWO flghts of stairs for upper level units
o) request to be near pool if you want to be 'close to the action'; request one of the outer units if you want a more quiet vacation - it's still a short walk to pool from outer units
p) other activities - beach volleyball, shuffleboard, kids playground, kids club activities (min age 4), etc

BOTTOM LINE - if you want to really stay on the beach in your own 'townhouse-like' private unit, this is the place for you. we hope to return here year after year.

Room Tip: request by pool to be close to action. request end units for quiet relaxation

I have been to Casa Ybel 3 times. The first 2 times I was very young and I don't remember a lot. The last time I went I went (Jan 11) I had a great time at the pool, seeing other stuff on the island and etc. But it was not a perfect trip. I can't really blame Casa Ybel to much for it though. My family and I went during owners week. So there were a bunch of old, grumpy and not so nice people. As I said I can't Casa Ybel for this, but it did put a bit of a damper on our trip. When playing the pool, at night (around 5) some old guy came over and RUDELY told us to stay out of his way. We weren't going to be in his way anyway so I don't why he had to say that. Another time during the middle of the day we were playing in the pool and having a good time. Then some old lady told us to be quiet. We weren't even that loud so the older people during our stay were not that nice and almost ruined our trip.
Pros
- Heated pool was very big, which was nice because it wasn't super warm during our trip
- Great service, I didn't bring a basketball so I wasn't able shoot hoops during the trip. But someone by the bar said he had a very good ball and gave it to me. And on his one will! When we lost someoney in the newspaper machine, the lady at the front desk gave us the amount of
money we lost. Loved the service.
- Nice tennis courts and basketball hoop.
- The rooms were plenty big and nice, plus all face the water.
- The landscaping was great with all the palm trees.
- Loved Coconuts!
The was beach was great and not to far from the rooms.
- Great location.
- Loved the hot tub and a good kiddie pool.
- Great shelling
Cons
- Grumpy old people.
- No fitness center
- No breakfast on the resort
- Should be some more stuff to do at the resort. But I guess you to Sanibel to explore the island.
I loved it here, I would to return, to Sanibel and I would stay at Casa , great resort and so much to do on the island as well! I would recommend this to family's who want a place to relax, but still plenty to don the island.

This hotel is very nice. The one bedrooms were very spacious and really enjoyed the fact that the porch was completely screened in. The beach is also very nice. However, it is very difficult to get to the beach as there are no direct paths...you have to walk from your room through rather thick grass. This was fine for us but difficult for my 80 year-old mother who was travelling with us. Also, umbrella rental is pricey. It is $28 per day for an umbrella and two chairs PLUS tax. There is no leniency if it starts to storm and you only use the umbrella for 1/2 a day. Or, if you don't rent it until noon...there is no half day rate. Also, if you take a child and need a pack N play, there is a rental rate for that too. We enjoyed our stay but really felt as though any little thing would be charged PLUS tax to our room. Not like the rooms aren't expensive enough as it is. The walls are very thin and we were awakened several nights by people screaming outside. We would probably return but would seek other alternatives first.

Room Tip: Request a room close to the pool.

We planned to spend just two days on Sanibel Island and had a reservation made at another hotel. Our room was not ready, the people were rude and the lobby smelled. We left and found Casa Ybel. They had one room left. The grounds were beautifully kept, the staff was attentive, the on site restaurant was excellent, and the beach was not crowded. Would we go back? In a heartbeat.

The is the most wonderful resort -- beautiful and tranquil, and yet just minutes from great restaurants and shops. Just steps from the Gulf of Mexico, you can hear the gentle waves as you sleep. I've spent many vacations on Sanibel, and Casa Ybel is the loveliest resort on the island. It is well-maintained and the staff is great. The beach is uncrowded and the pool is huge. Highly recommended!!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are good!

Was an excellent vacation, quite, peaceful, relaxing. the rooms were very nice and clean. The staff was very helpful and had an excellent countenance, it was as if they actually enjoyed their job, something uncommon these days. Loved the location, the extra money to have the chairs and umbrella set up daily was well worth it. The lady who checked me in had a very good personality and set the tone for the whole week. Everyone was very respectful of our privacy. Walls were well insulated, was very little noise from other patrons. Loved the sand bar you could swim out to and just sit and watch the world go by. Beach was not crowded. beds were in excellent shape. Was able to forget the high stress of my job for several days and just relax with no one wanting anything of me. Came back refreshed and ready to attack the world of industrial management again. Thanks

We loved Casa Ybel, we stayed in the one bedroom. The beach is beautiful, not crowded, be sure to rent the umbrella package, it is HOT in the summer. The pool is nice, perfect family resort - one bedrooms do not have a washing machine in the unit but coin operated machines are nearby. The staff was helpful, the barstaff was particularly energetic and kind.
