“Wonderful place for families!”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

We booked with the Westwind Inn based on the reviews here and we're so happy we did. We had adjoining rooms on the bottom floor with a lovely view of the pool and the ocean. The rooms were clean and large enough for all six of us to move around comfortably. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchenette was very convenient. We can't express how nice of an experience we had at this hotel. Be sure to check out the butterfly garden!!!

We stayed in a gulf-front kitchenette room and the best feature by far was the fact that you can walk right out your sliding glass doors onto your screened patio area, exit and be on the sand in three seconds. It's right outside your back door. Views of the gulf and sea oats were so amazing. Our unit was 102 in the Azalea building - I'd stay in this building again anytime. Bathrooms have been updated - they're small but sufficient. Rooms had two double beds. Kitchenette had a stove, microwave, good size fridge and all the kitchen supplies you'll need (plates/cups/silverware). Summer rates online were 20 percent off. The onsite restaurant, Normandie, was excellent. The only bad thing is that we couldn't get phone service (3G or 4G) in the rooms, barely one bar on the phones. Online internet on the computer was better. Step outside to use your phone and you're good to go. Pool area is large with plenty of tables/umbrellas and lounge chairs. Pool bar was fantastic. What a great amenity. Food menu is excellent and a nice surprise. Try the quesadillas or the burgers - we loved them. This was our third time here, we love the gulf-front units - best part is, you're far down the beach - away from the big condos - right next to the private residences so the beach is far less crowded than other sections. I've read reviews where folks complained about paper thin walls - we did not experience this. We had no issues.

Room Tip: Try the Azalea Building - it's closest to the beach.

This place was recommended by locals for our 4 night stay June 12-16. I am so glad we chose West Wind Inn. The room was very clean, updated and loved the shower! It was very nice having a screened in balcony. Our room was 2nd floor, back corner, farthest from the ocean, but still very enjoyable. From our balcony, we still had a pretty view of the pool. Speaking of the pool, it was wonderful!!! Plenty of towels and chairs to be had. Make sure you wear your flip flops to walk on the deck up to the pool bar, it gets HOT!! Very easy access to the beach, too.

My wife and I stayed here for our first part of our honeymoon. We didnt have reservations, but the staff was able to get us in a room no problem. They even gave us keys to afew rooms so we could pic which view we liked most. The room was clean, and had alot of extras for the price. The pool was absolutely awesome, I believe it is a salt water pool to. The beach area is perfect, and loaded with shells. We found so....many shells right infront of the hotel property. The staff was very friendly, and helpfull. We would 100% recommend this place for a visit, and we will return the next time we are in Sanibel.

Staying on Sanibel island is quite expensive and this location was a very happy medium for us. The room is a bit small and is basic, but it is clean. We had a screen porch, could easily walk to the pool, or walk directly to the beach (there are several access points), and were close enough to all the things we wanted to do! We actually rented bikes and biked around a great deal. It was exactly what we needed for a nice weekend getaway!

We wanted to stay in a cottage on the beach but had no luck finding anything for the Memorial Day weekend. The West Wind Inn had availability so we took a chance after reading the reviews. We're so glad we did because we loved every second of our stay there! We were upgraded to a room with a beach view. The room was very clean, recently upgraded and the king size bed was very comfortable. The room was quiet and the back screened in porch was a relaxing place to sip a cocktail and take in the sights. The location can't be beat. Since it's adjacent to a residential area, there are lots of shells waiting to be found. The beach is not crowded and we loaded up on many beautiful and unique shells. There were only a couple of downsides. There is a happy hour at the pool bar on Friday nights only. The drinks are well priced then, but overpriced any other time. The bathroom in our room was very small and only comfortable for one person. These were the only "flaws" that we can think of. We loved the shell house where we could clean our shells, the on site restaurant had excellent food and the fridge was big enough to hold all of our snacks and drinks. There were cooking utensils, pots, pans, plates, cups, silverware, a stove, microwave and even outdoor grills. But, who wants to cook when you're on vacation? Not us! We'll definitely plan a return trip to the West Wind Inn. It was a great experience!

This is a nice hotel, location is great a few yards away from the beach. A resturant on the property is nice, not any more expensive than most of the resturants on the island. I was allowed to check in early. At the time I checked in the woman that helped me acted like she did not care for tourest, maybe she was just having a bad day? The week I was there the shelling was a real let down maybe due to the storm the week before. They need to update their website, the room was not as pictured, nothing tropical about it. The rooms are very quite I never heard anyone, that might be because no one was next to me. They have lounge chairs by the pool, if you want to have one on the beach it was up to you to get it there. The pool area was clean a bit small but very nice. It is nice but there are better places to stay.

Room Tip: If you're booking on line do not use Booking.com. I found the same room at a better rate on a d...
