This was a great stop for a little history on the island. We accidentally found it while riding our bikes around and decided to stop in. We paid, but were a little surprised by, the entrance fee of $10 per person. The docent was informative as she showed us around the first house, but she trailed us around and we became anxious to move on to other buildings. We did not do a tour as there was one in progress when we arrived but we missed seeing one of the buildings because the large tour group blocked the entrance. The construction of the buildings and the salt pine used was very interesting.

a nice way to spend some time on Sanibel. Buildings and history are quite interesting. Although not "old" buildings, one can enjoy the old days of Sanibel.

The 30 minute video shown tells you all about the mollusks you've been collecting during your stay on Sanibel! You learn how they eat, reproduce and grow. The collection in the museum is one of the best in the country...perhaps the world! Fascinating stuff. Really enjoyed the children's section for "hands-on" instruction. Beautiful gift shop with very attentive staff...you can't leave there without making at least one purchase.

If you want to experience what Sanibel was like long before the causeway came in this is the place to go. It is such a pleasant walk through the historical village (particularly in February!) that you will be reluctant to leave. It is run by volunteers that love the history and can answer your questions intelligently. Don't miss it!
