I have visited the site several times and have enjoyed each visit. In today's society, it is always hard to image a one-room school house for educating the young and an old-time general stores supplying each family's needs. One of my visits included a very special quilt show by the local ladies.

We once lived in Florida for over 40 years and visited Sanibel numerous times--even Ding Darling several times. This year we are vacationing in Bonita Springs and decided to take the Guided Tram Tour with Tarbon Bay Eco Tours. We made reservations, which is a good idea since they only take 30 at a time. Louis was our driver and guide. We were fairly knowledgeable about the many birds that may be seen in the Refuge, but Louis told us so much more about the estuary ecosystem and the importance to the health of our waters. He was just phenomenal and we enjoyed 90 minutes of learning. REMEMBER IF YOU WANT TO DIRVE THE WILDLIFE DRIVE, IT IS CLOSED EVERY FRIDAY. (mainly to give the birds and animals a rest from all the traffic of humans in the midst of their feeding grounds.) The cost is $13 per person. ( Feb 11, 2012)

What a special treat for anyone who loves Sanibel. For only $5 you and your family members of any age will enjoy exploring the old houses and learning about what life was like here before the condos and tourists. A must stop spot!

This was our second visit to the Historic Museum and Village. This time we took our 10, 7 and 6 year old to learn a little bit whilst we were on vacation. They were fairly resistant to the idea at first, but ended up having a great time and the 10 year old asked to go back again for a second visit during this trip.

While my spouse and I had very much enjoyed the exhibits, we were worried it would not capture the children's attention the wait it had ours. We shouldn't have been worried. Not only were the different buildings fascinating to the girls - the docents that staff the Village knew exactly what to share to pique children's interest. Be sure to have your child ring the School bell to let everyone know when school is starting, or play with the amazing doll house in Morning Glories cottage. Getting a chance to shop in Bailey's General Store for souvenirs was a highlight as the items for sale have been very carefully chosen.

This is one of the highlights of Sanibel (in my opinion). It is a must do if you go to the island.

Unless you're a real history buff, this is kind of a snore.
