“Beachside Bliss”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

We had a great holiday at the Sanibel Inn! The beach is outstanding and we spent most of our time on deck chairs under a shade umbrella. There was a constant breeze to cool you while searching for shells and the water was clear and warm. We had originally made a reservation for a beachfront suite, however when we arrived we were told the suites were overbooked and ours had been given away. We were upgraded to a two bedroom condo which was outstanding. Every effort was made to get us back into a beachfront suite the next day, which we appreciated, but at that point I had already unpacked and was content to stay put.

There is a great poolside bar for drinks and eats; be sure to try the blackened grouper sandwich and also a large sit-down restaurant on site. This was our first time visiting Sanibel Island, we were looking for a quiet and relaxed holiday which is exactly what we got. Staff was friendly and helpful, especially Marion at the front desk. We will definitely be back!!!!

My family and I enjoyed our time on Sanibel Island at the Sanibel Inn. The gentleman at the desk was very helpful upon our arrival. The restaurant was a bit slow, but friendly. The room was clean and appeared to be recently remodeled, though still far from new...missing the little touches such as the tp holder not installed correctly in the restroom. Still a very good value. We will likely return.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. This was our first time on Sanibel and we hit a home run by picking Sanibel Island aswell as picking the right Hotel. Everything we would say is very positive and we had excellent weather which made it that much more enjoyable. We did not rent a car and we enjoyed biking around and seeing the sights. Eat at the Flamingo Great food...... We will be back !!!!!

Room Tip: We had the beach front balcony room that has breathtaking views

The hotel staff were courteous, friendly and helpful. Started out right with the check in. The lady at the desk asked if this was our honeymoon and when I replied it was our 33rd wedding anniversary and that we had never had a honeymoon or vacation alone, she gave us a bottle of wine "on the house" and wished us a "happy anniversary" and welcomed us to Sanibel Inn. The restaraunt on site, "the Sea Star" was supberb. Don't know if there was room service, but the bar at the pool was nice for an afternoon drink or sandwich. Great BLT's. The cleaning service was excellent along with the towels and beach umbrellas and lounge chairs for our time at the private beach. Bikes were available, and appeared in good condition, but we did not use them. We called the front desk on the second day and complained of a loose toilet seat. The repairman was there to tighten it within 2 minutes of calling. My only complaint was with the style of shower curtains (too short). Water easily got on the floor while taking a shower.

Room Tip: Best to get an end room on the second floor. More privacy.

The hotel is well maintained, landscaping is gorgeous and the staff is friendly and helpful. We have stayed at a number of places on Sanibel over the past couple of decades and Sanibel Inn rivals any of them in location, facilities, staff and service.

Room Tip: Beach front suite is roomy with an excellent view.

My husband and I stayed at the Sanibel Inn from April 24-28. We had a fantastic time and have nothing but positive things to say about this place!! Check-in went very smoothly. We arrived around 2pm and were greeted by Marion at the front desk, who was very friendly and helpful! Our room was ready at that time. We were given a map of the resort and Sanibel Island, a dining guide with menus, and Sanibel/Captiva travel brochures. This was very helpful, as we haven't been to Sanibel before and weren't sure where anything was.

Our Beachfront Suite was in the yellow Dune Daisy building on the 2nd floor. There isn't an elevator to get to the 2nd floor...you just walk up a few sets of steps. We didn't find this to be a problem at all. We had a very spacious and clean suite, consisting of a separate bedroom, bathroom and a sitting area with a kitchenette. We had a mini fridge, microwave and full size coffee maker, and some people said they had a Keurig in their room. The resort provides paper towels, dish soap, and a few packs of coffee/creamer in the kitchenette area. There is silverware, a few small glasses, wine glasses, bowls, etc. provided for your use.

The balcony was large, with a table and 2 chairs for enjoying the sunrises and sound of the ocean waves :-) It is a screened-in balcony, which we were not used to (screen got in the way of any pictures I tried to take from the balcony!) but we really appreciated being able to sit out there at night enjoying the beautiful full moon and listening to the waves without getting bit up by bugs!! I don't think we would have been able to sit out there as much as we did at night, had the balcony not been screened in.

Every morning, we enjoyed breakfast at the resort's Sea Star Café, which was a 2 minute walk from our room. We have no complaints where the food is concerned. The French toast, pancakes, fruit, eggs, omelets-- it was all delicious. There were only 1 or 2 servers each morning while we were there (we loved Marilu-- she was so sweet!), but everyone was very friendly and the service was not lacking. Our food always came out quickly no matter how full the restaurant was.

The first morning there, my husband and I made the mistake of going back to our room after breakfast and changing into our swimsuits/packing for the beach prior to getting a beach umbrella and chairs on the beach. BIG MISTAKE! Since we slept in that first morning and had a late breakfast, it was 10:30am when we made it down to the area where you get your umbrella (located right next to the pool.) The man there was very apologetic and said that all the chairs and umbrellas were out on the beach already and that he had no more for us, although if we had our own chairs they would be allowed on the beach since it IS a public beach. He suggested going down no later than 10am to get chairs/umbrella (they open at 8:30am) or they would more than likely be taken. He stated that the resort has a limit of 48 chairs they can put on the beach, so as to avoid beach overcrowding like in some other Florida beaches. Understandable, so we made a mental note to get there early the next day!! The next day we went straight there after breakfast. The chairs are already placed on the beach, so all you need to do is pick up a few beach towels from the attendant there and he will carry your umbrella to the beach and place it wherever you want it.

A few days into the trip we ran out of sunscreen so we went inside to the lobby, where they have a display set up with various sunscreens, (and also lots of shirts, etc. )for sale. Now, I had read a lot of Tripadvisor reviews prior to our trip, and saw so many reviews raving about Shahana at the front desk. Let me tell you, they are all true! We went inside just to pay for this sunscreen and met her for the first time... Shahana is so sweet and friendly, she makes you feel like family within a minute of meeting her! Just had to add that in here!

Truthfully, all the staff members were extremely friendly. Now, some of the tourists on the other hand, not so much... :-/ It is a very mixed crowd here, all ages. Kid-friendly, though I didn't see many children during our stay... maybe 5 or 6. Most of the people (tourists) we ran into at the inn were very friendly, while others gave you irritated looks when you were having too much fun or laughing a little too loudly by the pool or on the beach. We didn't let that bother us, as we were there to enjoy ourselves.

We loved our time on the beach!! The beach is FULL of seashells...you hear the crunch under your feet as you walk down the beach. Kids and adults alike were having so much fun picking up seashells...you always saw people out there at night with flashlights searching for seashells that washed up with the tide. The water is a pale turquoise, and shallow a long ways out. My husband is about 6'1"... he walked out at least 75 feet and the water was only up to his waist. The waves are very gentle and great for smaller kids playing in the surf. Oh, and we got a glimpse of some dolphins during our stay too!! :-)

The pool area was very nice. There were usually about 15-20 people at any given time lounging by the pool each day while we were there (which was usually from 1-3pm or so), but only a few in the pool at a time, so you had lots of room to swim. Lots of loungers, along with some tables with umbrellas (which got snatched up first.) We never had a problem finding a place to sit by the pool. The bar area was smaller (with uncomfortable chairs that were way too tall for the bar... tall guys hit their knees if they tried to sit in them... those need replaced, sorry!!) The bartenders, Rich and Joe, were great!! So friendly, and they always remembered our names! We enjoyed lots of mango-raspberry daiquiris, Banana Hammocks, and Miami Vices while we were there. (Well, my friend and I, anyway... the guys stuck with beer and rum and coke!) You are able to order lunch from the beach bar, which was very convenient, and we took advantage of that each day while enjoying our time by the pool.

All in all, this was a great adults-only trip. It was only 4 nights for us, and I reeeeeally wish it could have been longer but we had to return to the 60-some degree weather in Ohio for the time being. We were very satisfied with the Sanibel Inn. It is a beautiful place and we would not hesitate to come back and bring our 2 children on our return trip. I know they would love it as much as we did. Thanks so much for making our first Florida beach vacation a very memorable one!!!

Picked the Sanibel Inn based on reviews and pictures on the website, and so glad that we did, my husband and I loved every minute!! The price was perfect for the time that we went. The staff was very friendly and helpful with everything. Our room faced the beach and it was so nice to have a screened patio to sit out on in the morning and the evening. The pool bar was a great bonus, and the staff there were great! The beach was great, and if you love shells and searching for shells you'll love it here! It was our first trip to Sanibel Island, but it is certaintly not going to be our last to both Sanibel Island and the Sanibel Inn.
