We stayed here for Mother's Day weekend. Room was clean with the exception of dirty and stained carpet. It was spacious enough for the two of us. We used their bikes. They are not in very good condition and remember to bring your own pump since a lot of them had flat tires. It's literally a 30 sec walk to the beach behind the property. The only facility we used was the pool which could use some cleaning. Breakfast has pastries, bagels, milk & cereals, coffee, tea, juices and hot cocoa. If the carpet was cleaner, I would have given it a 5 stars. Overall, it was a good place to stay for a weekend.
We stayed in this hotel a couple years ago and loved it. When looking for a place, I was reluctant due to some of the moderately negative feedback. I went ahead and booked the room and was very happy to find a nice, clean and comfortable room. The hotel staff are wonderful. Holly, the assistant manager, goes out of her way to answer all your questions and was just wonderful and very cheerful. This is the kind of place I want to come back to as soon as possible. The bikes have been replaced and the pool is great.
If you are expecting a five star hotel with all the amenities, you should look elsewhere. If you want a nice, affordable place to create some wonderful memories...go for it.
Don't let the modest exterior of this old style in fool you. The interior facilities have been recently upgraded with nicely appointed amenities that you would expect to find in a premium resort. We stayed at four different hotels during our week long tour of Florida and agreed that our bed and overall room accommodations at Sunset was the best overall. The hotel is positioned to give the majority of hotel guests an excellent view of the ocean. The grounds were well maintained and the hotel managers were friendly, informative, and very effiecent. I would gladly stay here again and would wholeheartedly recommend the Sunset Inn to my family and friends.
Don't come here for luxury however if you are looking for value the tennis courts, pool, beach were first rate. the pool was just wonderful very large and very clean and lots of pool side chairs Bring your own beach chair although they provide chairs and umbrella's they are not too many. The shell hunting was great right on the beach. Also shell washing station. free internet. continental breakfast and sangria in the evening a nice touch. Room was large and adequate with screened patio. Friendly staff our unit 102 was clean and comfortable. I recommand it. bike trail right across the street with easy acess to everthing. Has refrig. mirowave and toaster oven.
I have been visiting this hotel each spring since 2007 and have seen a real downward spiral. The bikes which were once a nice addition are no longer usable. There are less than ten bikes that can be ridden.
The umbrellas and beach chairs are ripped and stained. As I walked down the beach the other resort hotels had really nice beach furnitue. Sunset Beach looked like a "shanty town" in comparision to all of the others.
My door was broken and would not shut unless slamed (a nice touch at 7 am). It was fixed rather quickly. The security lock was gone and the door had been pried open. The bathroom floor had a dirt build up and the balcony was a puddle from the ac. The ac would was very loud and was not very efficent. This was the most expensive room in the resort. Gulf Front.
The outside balcony is stained from trash being removed and the whole building needs a paint job.
The breakfast is shut from 7 am until 7:30 pm. This is the time that we try to get out each day. There are no exceptions and the staff made sure to delay the opening until the exact starting time.
I love the location, have always until this year loved the staff and enjoyed myself. It almost seems like the facility is being sold and nothing is being put back into it. I hope this isn't my last visit to this special spot on Sanibel.
