We stayed at the Sunset Beach Resort for 2 days while on a vacation in Florida. The Resort is situated in a nice area in Sanibel, right on the beach. When we arrived, we found out that the Resort was being renovated , and that the hotel's pool was closed. They upgraded us ton an huge suite ( see video) and informed us that we could use the pool of another resort close by (see pictures).

Check in was swift , and the staff was friendly, but it would have been nice if they had contacted us before we arrived , informing us that there was a major renovation going on at the Resort. Breakfast was served at the reception area, we had no problems finding a table where we could sit and enjoy our breakfast , but i guess that if the hotel had been full, it would have been a problem, as there was only one table indoors, and another one just outside the reception area ! The wireless internet connection did not work from our room ( neither with a cable connection) , but it did work at the reception area. There was also a tennis court at the resort, but we did not use it.

They have complementary bikes to use, and we biked to the J.N. Ding Darling National Park Refuge. The beach area was nice, with free chairs & umbrellas .

We enjoyed our stay and probably will come back next year.

I came to this resort based on the reviews written here. I can say, that at best we were disappointed. There was major renovation during our stay, the pool was closed, the internet connection (wireless was one of the reasons I chose this location) was out of service to most of the building - I needed to do my connects from within the business office- front lobby - eating lounge.

The resort is by all accounts a wonderful view of the ocean, we faced easterly and did infact get morning sun. We were informed (having requested a king bed, that none were available because no one likes them.

The room has a full kitchen at one corner of the room (by the entry). The bath is renovated so that there is a semi-circular shower ring, a nice feature, inside the bath. The bathroom itself is incredibly tiny but functional. The maid service was, indeed quite good.

Breakfast is billed as 'continental'. They have 24/7 coffee and orange juice as well as morning danish, donuts and bagels (ala Florida) or croissants. The difficulty is that this is, again in the office space. There is no place to sit (unless there are no more than two of you) or to meet other travelers in this motel. I suppose this could be a plus or a minus depending your personal tastes. For us it was a minus.

Because of the renovation, the pool was closed during our stay. Apparently they made arrangements for another resort a few doors up to take their guests. They were none to happy to see us.

The location is accessible to downtown Sanibel as well as the Ding santuary. They do have complimentary bikes to use to ride about the island.

Overall the place is trying hard. Our disappointments were more in the non-notification of major rennovation and loss of internet connections. Don't expect to meet folks here unless by accident on the beach.

The staff are helpful and knowledgeable about Sanibel if not whats happening at the resort.

My Wife, and 2 children (both age 3) took her parents over to the Sunset Beach Resort for their 50th Wedding anniversary. We also booked her brothers, wife and kids as well. EVERYONE had a fantastic time at this quiet right-on-the-beach resort. Rooms were recently upgraded (its not the Ritz, but very nice for the price) and we found
the resort in a fantastic spot - convenient to all the restaurants on
Sanibel, many within 1 mile.

Hospitality was impressive, requests serviced very quickly, and many folks who worked at the hotel stopped us in passing to always ask if everything was ok. The Pool was immaculate, and perched with a great
view of the ocean as well. Needless to say, we will be back. This is what a quiet laid back beach vacation should be.

We stayed here for 5 nights recently and loved it. The motel has about 35-40 units and is located just off the Gulf, with the beach (and millions of sea shells) about a 2-min. walk from the rooms. Clean, very quiet, very peaceful, and friendly staff. Our room had a nice-sized (larger than dorm-size) fridge, 4-burner elect. stove w/oven, coffee pot, basic pots, pans and dishes, and microwave. Complimentary, very basic breakfast, also NYTimes and USA Today. Swimming pool is surrounded by palm trees. Laundry facilities on site. We were given fresh sheets and towels (including 6 large ones!) daily. We enjoyed our stay here and would definitely return!

My husband and I stay for 9 beautiful days. The room was clean and very nice, simple, but very adequete. The houskeeping staff were very friendly and responsive. The front office staff were very helpful. Cont. Breakfast each morning in the office, beautiful beach and pool Only thing we would liked to have is umbrellas at the pool. We will be back next year, very relaxing, quiet and good value.
