My family and I have been coming here for over 20 years. This will be our last. We always reserve the same block of first floor beach front rooms, year after year. (Note we have someone with cancer, someone with acute arthritis and with someone with polio hence the need for first floor rooms). We confirmed our rooms a week ago, the hotel gladly takes our money yet at check-in, we are given completely different rooms, up a long flight of exhausting stairs. The worst part is that the lady at the front desk, who claims to be the manager and inn keeper, speaks to us like we are idiots, telling us we are getting similar rooms to what we booked a year ago. What the heck? Really? Family not next to each other ... being medically needy yet forced to trudge through a long flight of stairs. This lady clearly gave our rooms to others, yet was unapologetic, unaccommodating and rude. A simple "I'm sorry, we made made a mistake" would have gone a long way. Could it be because we are a mixed family of Anglos, Cubans, Jamaicans, Lebanese and Haitians? I wonder... We hear it is under new ownership - and clearly something's up as we have never been treated this way at Sea Side Inn, or quite frankly, anywhere else. What a pity, a family tradition now over because of incompetence and basic customer service 101.

We understand the disappointment and frustration of not getting the same unit as in previous years. Reservations are made by unit type and special requests are met when possible. While we were able to accommodate the guests on the 1st floor the following day, the start of their holiday was disrupted. We do apologize that we negatively impacted their visit as our goal is always to provide a positive experience. Hopefully we will have another opportunity.

While the office staff is efficient but not accurate( shelling depends on low tides and the information given to me was tide charts completely out of date by a month), and the beds are comfortable, nothing can overcome the third-rate "update" so highly advertised. No effort was made to soundproof the rooms, and you will be awakened hourly by the extremely obnoxious noise of everyone in the place! The decking in the hallways is planking, spaced perfectly 3/8" apart so that guests leaving at all hours make their wheeled luggage sound like loud roofing nail guns as they pass right outside your room.

Do you need an hourly wake-up call, all night long? Be forewarned.

The front door opens R-L directly into a "snack bar" so close you have to squeeze sidewise to get into the room.

Our "poolside" view was in fact LAUNDRY ROOM view.

$229/night + tax = 250/night should have been hostel rate = $80/night.

On the positive side, for this price, not much: The "upgrade" gives you tacky, tacky, tacky beach art work, stencil, in very poor taste. The "kitchenette" means you must unplug and move the coffee maker to make room to use use the microwave. The overhead lighting is atrocious: try finding soft light in the night when you want to go to the bathroom: you'll have a halogen headlight startling your companions into an angry encounter about that "...! light".

What's good? Beach access and a wonderful housekeeper from the Islands.

Will we go back? No way. Pay a bit more, book in advance, enjoy your stay and get at least 2 hours of uninterrupted rest!

Room Tip: Forget about it!

Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate your comments regarding your housekeeper and glad you enjoyed the close access to the beach. Thanks also for mentioning the bathroom light situation; we'll certainly check it out. Your experience was far less than positive and for that I apologize. Please contact me directly at your earliest convenience (239-472-1400). I look forward to hearing from you.

Had a beach front room with very nice screened lanai. Well appointed and clean but not fancy. Shelling on the beach outside the room was great. Really appreciated the chaise and umbrellas the staff puts out on the beach each morning. The pool was awesome and thought the little store and vending was convenient. Plenty of nice quality bathroom towels as well as ample size sundries. Nice selection of breakfast food items.

Only complaints were there was no caraf for our coffeemaker so no morning coffee :( and housekeeping staff was hovering at check out time which made getting the car packed up a little extra stressful.

Would definitely recommend to others - oh, and it's off the beaten path a bit which we liked.

Room Tip: Most rooms have a view

We stayed for 3 nights in February. For the price we paid I would have expected a little nicer accommodations. The room was in need of minor repairs and a much deeper cleaning. The water and beach was beautiful. The breakfast in your room everyday was nice. Fit the Sanibel Island theme of laid back though. Loved having the bikes sitting there to take anytime you wanted included in the nightly rate. Lots of restaurants and places to go nearby.

We stayed 3 nights in this peaceful place.
We had a one bedroom cottage and a bedroom with 2 beds with side view on the sea.
The one bedroom cottage was nice, a bit "oldfashioned" with a little patio, nice bathroom. The kitchen was dated and not very clean.
The bedroom with the side view on the sea has the evening sun, just lovely to have a drink before going out for supper. Very noisy fridge. The whole place could do with a really good clean or revamp but you forget about it very quickly thansk to the general "charm" of this place.
The kids loved the pool, i loved the easy access to the beach and the tranquility. We used the bike to explore the island (i just forgot that the indications were in miles and not in kms and ended up cycling more than expected).

Room Tip: For a family, the one bedroom cottage is perfect but we loved the view and the "sunset" fr...

On my most recent trip to Sanibel, I stayed at this wonderful little "Old Florida style" resort, and I'm really happy to find this little gem! Our one bedroom "cottage" was nice, and clean. Full sized 'fridge and stove, microwave. Adequate supply of pans and kitchenware. Flat screen TV's in the bedroom and living room. The property was neat and nicely landscaped. The feeling was peaceful.......quiet.......relaxing. A short walk to the beach, we could see the ocean from our porch. We walked to the Sanibel Lighthouse one afternoon. Nice pool, laundry facility. The folks in the office were SO nice!! We were very happy here, and would DEFINITELY come back again!

Seaside Inn is truly "old Florida style". Many of our guests fall in love with the cottages for the very reasons you mentioned. Seaside Inn is very close to the beach; with only 32 units we're able to maintain the peaceful, quiet experience that you enjoyed. Thank you for you staff comments! We look forward to your return!
