We stayed in #3 a 2 BR condo for a week. It was pet friendly and we enjoyed our stay here except for the air conditioning, it took 3 days to catch up and finally get cooled down. We were constantly yelling at the kids to quickly shut the doors because of the oppressive heat coming in. (And I am a hot weather lover). This is not a beach front resort and I am ok with that but feel you should understand it is a short walk through the mangrove trees to get to the beach. Also due to the geographical location there is no sunset from the beach (during July anyway). What this place does have going for it is charm, a hot swimming pool and pet friendly. The grounds are the most beautiful landscaping I have seen (except in Jamaica maybe). I would stay here again.

As long-time visitors to Sanibel, when we acquired a dog, it became a challenge to continue our visits as the options are few for bringing pets. We stayed at a place where Sanibel meets Captiva once and did not enjoy it at all. We finally found Signal Inn on Middle Gulf Drive and were very happy and visited several times.

Note that like many Sanibel properties, your unit is at least one floor up and at Signal Inn, that means stairs. They are open-back stairs so if your dog has issues, be aware. Otherwise, no problem. The property welcomes your dog for an additional fee (ask for rates) but it's a small price to pay to bring your 4-footed family member.

There is an indoor racquetball court if you're into that, a great pool area, and a boardwalk to the beach a short distance away. Use the washing station at the property end of the boardwalk to clean up after the beach. We always used the charcoal grills at least once for eat-in dining. You dog is welcome to "walk" as needed so long as you pick it up, and they are welcome on the beach, too. Generally, units come with everything you need plus some beach accessories. Ask for details when you call. You can book in increments of 3 days or a week with an option for extra nights. You must call to book so ask questions and make sure what you're getting.

When we had two small dogs for a while, the older one couldn't quite navigate the stairs so I carried her and she made the climbing motions as we went up each step, trying to help. Cute and has nothing to do with the review but I just had a "miss my dog" moment.

Signal Inn offers covered parking and a friendly staff. The units we have stayed in were bright and clean but not necessarily state of the art. More like state of Sanibel - more than acceptable. Rates are typical of similar properties and when you go online, you can see the booking calendar. Desired dates and seasons go fast so it's not a last minute choice to stay there. The shelling was generally good the times we've stayed but it will vary. I pulled a huge conch out of the water once and became an instant shell celebrity. That's how it goes on Sanibel.

If we hadn't lost our dog recently, we would certainly choose Signal Inn once again and we highly recommend it - for you and your dog. Yes, it's possible to enjoy without a dog, too, and many people do.

There are a number of restaurants on Sanibel where you can bring the dog, such as Island Cow and Amy's Over Easy. Check bringfido dot com for additional info. The review date is May 2014 but our last visit was May 2011; there was not option to adjust it.

Room Tip: They're all good but the end unit has a deck looking over the mangrove/gulf.

Just left the inn and our stay was cut short because the air conditioner unit was broken. 2 miserable days with the repair man coming to the condo both days and not fixing it. Finally we told the manager we wanted to leave and we did get our money back fortunately. But even if the AC problem didn't occur I would never go back. Condo was small and dated. We picked the inn so we could take our dogs. The older one with arthritis was having a terrible time getting up and down the steep stairs to the condo. The beach was a disappointment as well. This is one of the worse condos we ever rented for vacation.

It's our 3rd time at Sanibel's Signal Inn.
The place has 20 Cottages on Sanibel beach. All the Cottages are great, clean and well equipped and the property has a swimming pool and direct access to the beach.
Signal Inn website is very complete. Looks a little old, but works well. You can choose any Cabin form the map site, and click for the pictures. There are not any pictures but the cabin that you choose pictures. So, no surprise, you watch what you will get.
The owners are very distant, not so friendly people. We didn't look for new friends anyways.
The units are full equipped and you don't need nothing but your bathing-suit.
The beach is astonish and totally tranquil. Go there, it's a must!

We have stayed at Signal Inn for 4 years, and sometimes twice a year. This property is pet friendly, and we do bring our dogs. The management is prompt, and they are nice. They keep the entire property enticing to visitors. There is never garbage, or unsightly conditions at the Signal Inn. We have stayed in multiple units, and have always found them neat, and maintained. The pool is in excellent condition, and the lawn furniture appears newer. On this trip, we booked late, and we went with unit 3. I would not suggest this unit. I think the units are individually owned, and not all units are the same on the inside. Unit 3 appears to have the bathtub redone, but the smaller room with toilet appears to not have been redone. The paint is flaking off the ceiling, and doors, and the knobs on the bathroom doors are not in good condition. There is old carpet in the bedrooms, and it is worn. I know with a pet friendly property that things may get damaged, but this unit could be improved. We didn't think there was a need to complain, since the management has nothing to do with the purchasing of new furniture, or the renovating of a unit. We don't think it was their fault the unit was in this condition. This unit is also right by the pool. There are people who do use the pool, and if you do not like noise, this is not the unit for you. This unit costs either the same or approx. the same as the other units, and this was not as nice as any of the others we have stayed in. I would not want to spend this money on unit 3, I think there are alternative units that are worth the money.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, stay closer to the beach. But if you have kids, the pool rooms might be ni...
