“Educational”

I have never seen so many shells before. It was an education to me to see them and learn where they came from. There was also a video presentation you could watch that was also interesting to me.

“No, don't go.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2013

Well, it's good in theory ( esp. if you are in school and want to write a book report on shells.... lol! ), but it did not catch my interest, sorry to say. It is what is sounds like....... a shell museum. If it had cost less, it would have stung less. We paid $9.00/ person to get in and it should have cost $5.00 or under. Just not too interesting, really.

“Do Not Miss!”

This is a true little gem on Sanibel. Because of heavy rain during our stay, we toured this museum and we learned a tremendous amount about sea shells and the animals therein. I would highly recommend going prior to doing any shelling, so that you understand more about the shells you will find on Sanibel and Captiva. Don't fail to get a seashell identification sheet from the museum shop so that you'll know what you are finding on these beautiful beaches.

“An interesting gem if you love shells”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2013

We have visited the Shell Museum several times and enjoy the exhibits. You can probably spend 1-2 hours looking at the variety of shells. They have a DVD on the life of mollusks (shells) which sounded very odd, but my husband and I were enthralled with it. We are avid shellers and did not know much about the life cycle of mollusks. We even bought the DVD and have shared it with others at home. This is a great place to spend a rainy afternoon when you aren't looking for your own shells on the beach. Even if we don't go through the museum each time, we usually stop at the gift shop for some unique items.

“Easy hour if you need a break indoors”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2013 via mobile

It is our first trip to Sanibel so we wanted to be sure to check out the shell museum. The shells were very interesting and well displayed but unless you want to watch the films on shells (snore) you will be able to get in and out within the hour.
