We stayed in the original building for 3 nights. Everything was perfect. Love the location near the downtown waterfront restaurants, and park. Great views of the water. Staff was very polite and friendly. The great varanda in front has a bar and they also serve appetizers. It is a a nice place to relax in one of the comfy couches. Will definitely stay again in the future.

Room Tip: Get a room with a waterview.

Clinton at the Front Desk welcomes every visitor/guest with a sincere smile. What an ambassador for the Vinoy. The luxurious building and property are so welcoming, pristine and comfortable. Enough room for everyone to find a seat: especially the lobby rocking chairs. The pool facilities are 'excellent': there are towels, fresh water, servers to accommodate meals/snacks, drinks (and reasonable too). There is an adult terrace for quiet time (reading/napping/viewing the marina across the way). In the main foyer is the best coffee we've had with to-go snacks. There is ample parking. Well worth a return visit (or two).

We stayed at the Renaissance Vinoy Hotel for a 5 day trip with our 20 year old son. We chose the property because of it's association with the Vinoy Golf Club as well its proximity (30min) drive to George Steinbrenner Stadium in Tampa where we attended two Yankee spring training games. Our room rate included rounds of golf each day. The golf course is private and only Renaissance guests can play other than members. The course is beautiful and was in excellent condition. In addition the club staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel itself was lovely. Although it is an older, historic hotel, it has been completely renovated and feels fresh and modern inside. We had a large room overlooking the marina and pool which was lovely and nicely decorated. Our experience with the restaurant and service was completely different from some of the negative reviews I've read. We had breakfast in Marchand's and lunch a few times at Alfresco's. The breakfast was delicious and surprisingly reasonably priced for a luxury hotel. Lunch food and drinks were great in Alfresco's and the service couldn't have been any better. Lori, our server was helpful, friendly and terrific. The town of St Petersburgh is quite lovely and there are some great restaurants for dinner within a 5 minute walk of the hotel. Overall this is a great place to visit for a few days.

We absolutely love the Vinoy. It is a beautifully renovated historic masterpiece. The first night of our stay we arrived a little late, so we decided to enjoy a light dinner on the Verandah because marchands had a dress code and we were very casual. Our server was great but the orientation of the facility made things slow. We ordered a number of appetizers in order to enjoy a Tapas style dinner. The appetizers were mediocre at best. One item sounded amazing...Lobster Grilled Cheese, it was flavorless and served cold allthough it was a rather small sandwich we did not even finish it.

The next morning we went into Marchands and ordered a Bellini and a Boody Mary, the bartender seemed distracted and unprepared for the day. He complained about how busy he was with the whole of about 12 people. It was kind of odd that he would be so over worked with so fewp people in the bar. Anyway I got my bloody and it was ok, the bellini however was a joke, he opened up a split, and put the glass in front of my wife with no peach puree in it, when I mentioned it he came over with a shot of peachtree schnapps and poured it in. Ok sounds like im being picky but seriously, in such an elegant environment to be served what amounted to a peach boilermaker was a bit low brow. We did not complain, but also my wife wound up ordering something else we paid our tab and moved on to a resturant on Beach Drive fearing our brunch would either reflect the quality of the bellini or the food from the night before.

My opinion, stay at the Vinoy, it is delightful, but eat at the resturants on beach drive.

Room Tip: The wing to the southwest is very quiet and the rooms have a lovely view of the yacht basin and Tampa bay

We stayed at the Vinoy twice this year, both on weekend trips that brought us to St Petersburg. While I'm sure that this hotel is better than the skanky hotels on the Beach, and probably better than the local Hampton Inn, I found it overpriced and overrated. I found that charging Wifi, overcharging for breakfast ($48 for 2 people!), and general lack of amenities within the room to be disappointing. However, the service and courtesy of the staff was excellent. And it certainly seems a favorite spot for weddings.
