“Excellent Hospitality in a Classic Treasure”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

Spent Labor Day weekend at the Vinoy. What a great place, true architecture, where everyone waits on you like you are a celebrity. The staff throughout, whether valet persons, pool staff, front desk, housekeeping, bellman, and restaurant staff would make sure everything was perfect and we did not wait or want for anything. The location is perfect to walk around downtown St. Pete and find all the little shoppes, restaurants, and bars. It was unfortunate the Pier Building was closed for renovations but there was still plenty to do. We ate at the hotel, Cerviche, and The Moon under Water where food and drinks were great. Will definitely go again.......

My husband, and I checked in on Friday, 8/30/13, we traveled to bring our son back to Eckerd collgege for his second year, having traveled all the way from Connecticut, we arrived before check in time, fully expecting to wait for our room, and pleasently surprised that it was ready. The front desk, Valet, restaurant, bar, pool, and housekeeping staff were incredibly helpful, respectful, and willing to do whatever they could to make our stay wonderful, and they did. The hotel is totally beautiful, decorated, and furnished, with elegance, and charm. LOVED, LOVED the Chihuly decorative glass creations, particularly the chandelier in the main ball room, just awesome! Also really enjoyed sitting out on the rocking chairs outiside the front lobby listening to the music. WE will absolutely return to this hotel!!!!!!

Was lucky enough to stay in this jewel of a hotel for 3 nights in late August and will make sure to return again in the future. It was a business trip and the meetings were held on site. The staff was friendly and went out of their way to help you if you have questions or need anything.

The room I had, 747, was on the top floor and had a small balcony (you could not sit on it) that provided views of the harbor in front and the pool to the left. It was spacious, clean and well maintained. The only drawback was the elevators which are very small and only hold 3 to 4 people. Not a big deal and just a sign of a hotel that was built during a different age.

The bar out on the "front porch" was a great gathering place each evening. The pleasant breezes, fantastic views, and great liabations made for wonderful evenings with friends. If you watch closely, you could see some fairly well known people joining you. We say a well known singer and several Major League Baseball players.

All in all, I cannot wait to bring my wife back to this grand damne for a relaxing and romantic long weekend. It is the perfect spot.

Room Tip: Depending on your preference, ask for a room that faces the harbor, the pool or the grounds. I woul...

The nicest staff, the most beautiful, convenient port-side location, great gym including free classes, delicious restaurants...my husband and I have been going for ten years. We love it! (I would love to have Wi-Fi included in my room fee, though!)

If you appreciate pre-hotel chain history and the era of early resorts, this is a property to experience! From the moment you drive up, you are greeted by smiling attendees, anxious to greet and serve. There are plentiful staff positioned in all areas ready to meet your needs. To really understand the magnificance of the Vinoy, you must first aquaint yourself with it's history, which is easy to do by taking a few minutes to enjoy the large timeline display on the wall, just west of the check in counter. Down this hall, there are many photographs and collective pieces from the early era of the Vinoy. If you take the time to trace the steps from it's glory days, the period which it lay in near ruins, and then the rise to re-creation, it makes the entire Vinoy experience even more wonderful. There is even a historical tour including a very nice lunch for $25 that can be enjoyed daily. Renting a bike and riding through the beautiful residential districts, is wonderful as well, as the area between the resort and the golf course are quite exquisite. Watching the sun rise over the bay sitting under a private cabana just above the pool deck is another treat! We were able to enjoy a breakfast package stay that was most enjoyable, and the staff was most eager to please. The enormous veranda with comfortable furnishings boasts a very welcoming call as you enter the Vinoy, and was the first place I parked myself to enjoy a book. It was there I was able to get a birds eye view of a taping of an HGTV session, which is a common event at the Vinoy. Be sure to ask any of the pleasant staff if any celebrities or interesting happenings are taking place during your stay, as it is a frequenting spot for many familiar faces. Without a doubt, we will be back! For the money, we haven't found a more beautiful and captivating historical spot to be pampered!

We stayed Aug 28th. The hotel is very elegant and has beautiful design and history. The rooms are also very roomy. The place is immaculately clean and tidy. The pool is very huge with two hot tubs. Very few people use the pool. The fitness room was also nice. The bad thing about the hotel is they charge you $10 for WIFI in the room. It is free at most Marriots and even a cheap Holiday Inn has free WIFI.

The good first. The hotel is in a superb location within walking distance of many restaurants, museums, and entertainment. The entry area is quite nice and gives the place a European feel. The check in was smooth and the staff was pleasant. Our stay included the breakfast package which I would strongly suggest as you get credit for 2 adults and 2 kids for about $40. Otherwise expect to spend about $25 each for breakfast. The breakfast staff was excellent. In general, if you acted lost or needed help the staff was right there.
Now the not so good. Our room wasn't clean. We found black hair in the sink, in the tub, on the floor, and on the counter. There was mildew on the bath tile, obviously it hadn't been cleaned in a while. We took the stairs on one of our adventure and OMG, what a mess. In general, there are a lot of things needing cleaning, paint, or attention. The lamp in our bathroom was rusting. Not what you expect for an upscale hotel.
This place was magnificent when it opened in the early 1990s. They had Persian rugs, lots of marble, and authentic lights. It gave you the true classic European feel. Now they have snake lights, funky rugs, and modern displays mixed with the classic architecture. It doesn't work for me.
A couple of pet peeves...why do they charge for the Internet ? Even Red Roof give it to you for free. Also, why do you have to go thru 47 steps to get to regular TV?
This place can't hold a candle to the Marriott in Marco Island. There are better values downtown St. Pete.

Room Tip: Don't pay the extra for a balcony.
