“Terrifying”

This is my sixth day here and this place is disgusting, the ppl staying here are the worst of the worst of society, and most of all it is dangerous. Allow me to elaborate. There is a white fungus below the ac unit about 2 feet wide on the floor. Last night a ghetto person knovked on my door, said oops, then puked on my doorstep. They are renovating the room below me and have been pounding at my floor and within the walls for the past two hours. It's not the owner's fault, but st pete especially this block is extremely dangerous. The bathrooms are ok lol

My friend and I took a trip to FL for spring break this year and stayed here. We found it to be very suitable for our 2-night stay in St. Petersburg. Very close to Treasure Island and beautiful beaches, and the accommodations came at a much better value. Initially we were given a smoking room after having requested a non-smoking room, but they were very accommodating and helpful in making sure we got a comfortable non-smoking room. Great experience for the price!

Room Tip: Ask for non-smoking if you want it. Then go back and ask again (nicely) if they accidentally give yo...

My husband and a friend of his (both having served with the Marines) went to watch a couple of ball games. His friend was outside of the room when 3 crazy people began to approach him yelling. They chased him into his room and remained outside attempting to break the door in for 30min. Once they left my husband and his friend had packed up their things to leave & find somewhere safe to stay for the night. On thier way to the front desk they were once again chased by these 3 people. Weapons and firearms were brandished & they called the cops. When the cops arrived they informed them that they had "checked into the motel of choice to the prostitutes & crack heads".

There was one positive thing about the Budget In and that was the Manager in the Office was kind and refunded them their money.

All of the Negative reviews on here are no exaggeration. They were spot on. Please do not disreguard these reviews. This is not a place for those vacationing. Be careful there is a Days Inn is right across the street which is in the same neighborhood. Pay a little bit extra to stay to the East where all of the other Hotels are.

I just stayed here for 5 nites. Large motel w/ cast iron 'New Orleans' type metal balconies. Its true that the old owner was awful, and the new owners are definitely an improvement. They seem to be a large Indian family who run the place and live on property, and for the most part they are friendly and helpful, and do everything from check-in to housekeeping and maintenance. They have put in alot of room improvements, including electronic locks on the doors (plastic keycard entry), new beds, furniture and TVs. There is full free WiFi, and full cable w/ remote. The room was basic and clean where it counted. The outside grounds are well kept and the pool was always crystal clear and clean. Only problem was the maintenance of the room (208). The electric sockets in the bathroom didnt work, and neither did one of the two at the desk outside the bathroom, so I had to constantly switch my appliances, computer, hairdryer out of the one socket that worked. (The sockets are only 2-pronged, but the front desk sent up a 3 prong adapter immediately.) The microwave was sitting on top of the fridge, but no socket to plug it into, so had to move it to the desk and use the same socket as for everything else. The shower drain (no filter) was totally clogged so the water was up to my ankles by the time my shower was done (a simple run to the nearby 'dollar store' for drain opener and that was solved) The base of the toilet was spotless on the side you could easily see, but hadnt been cleaned in months on the side you couldnt see easily.
They have put in alot of work to the place, but seems if they just put a little more in it would be so much better. Have to say tho, the clientele is definitely 'downscale', so they must have their hands full just dealing w/ guests who dont care about the room and leave it trashed. But its way better than the hotels across the street, and for 45.00 a nite, its more than what you would expect. There are lots of characters lurking about the area (tho not on the property) . Great diners right up the street. Lots of parking.

I wish them luck tho. The place was mostly empty when I was there, and it could be so much better if they fixed it up and went 'upmarket' a bit but Im not sure that market exists in this area. Ill go back tho, if Im in St Pete again.

Was a bit nervous about staying here after being tipped off that there was a review in the bed bug registry, but was reassured by mgt that not a problem and could get $$ back. In fact, room was incredibly clean (took all sheets off bed and mattress looked brand new), though simple. NO bedbugs whatsoever BTW.it's located just one block from the KFC,Dunkin donut.

I spent 15 days in room 224 of the Budget Inn. The oddest thing about my stay is that their web site http://www.magnusonhotels.com/budget-inn-st-petersburg was giving me a price of over $400 per week but when I asked at the front desk I was given a rate of $210 per week. The web site is cleverly worded to make it appear as if Budget Inn is owned and operated by a corporation called "Magnuson Hotels" but upon closer inspection of other pages in the magnusonhotels.com domain, you'll see that this is not the case. Magnuson appears to simply be some kind of booking engine similar to Expedia, Travelocity, etc.

Anyway, this is definitely not a family vacation hotel. You're in an area of urban decay; not quite a ghetto but full of the usual urban characters such as prostitutes and panhandlers. Several street corners near Budget Inn are popular spots for the down and out to stand and hold signs directed at passing cars.

The hotel is sort of U-shaped, with most of the rooms inside the U facing the pool. There is another row of 2 floors of rooms on the south side of the motel, facing a KFC/A&W restaurant. I had a room on that side, near 34th St, and it was very noisy with the sound of passing traffic, sirens, and cars that go BOOM.

The room also smelled pretty foul. Cigarette smoke, mildew, a combination of both, I dunno. So I walked down to the Publix about 10 blocks away and bought some air fresheners at $1 each. Three was enough (one on each night stand and one in front of the air conditioner/heater.) A box of foam earplugs solved the noise problem.

This is the kind of motel where you expect to see roaches and/or bedbugs come cruising out at any time of day. Surprisingly, during my 15 days there, I didn't encounter any bugs of any kind. That elevates this motel above the worst of the worst; along with the helpful and polite attitude of the family that owns and/or manages the place. Usually a place like this will have rude owners who treat you like you're some kind of lowlife but that's not the case. The family appears to live in an apartment behind the front desk and they take turns working the office.

In my opinion, the main problem with this property is that the housekeeping staff has been lazy and doesn't care. There were old crusted stains on the toilet that could have easily been cleaned off at one time but instead were allowed to remain for years. Same with the nicely colored bathroom tiles. You can tell they're newer than the rest of the property, but no one ever bothered to scrub them. I pulled back the nightstands to see years of dust and dirt piled up underneath. Same with the refrigerator.

The bed spread and sheets also had cigarette burns in them, and of the four pillows on my bed, one was definitely a shade of brown compared to three which were off white.

If the property owners would hire a special deep cleaning crew to go in and thoroughly clean each room, and spend $50 per room for new bed spreads, this would probably be just as nice a place as the nearby Quality Inn and Hampton Inn.

It seems that they're trying but their housekeeping staff just doesn't care. Or perhaps they're not paid enough to care.

Bonuses are free wireless Internet, which I found to be unreliable at times but mostly usable; and you're in walking distance to three grocery stores (Sweetbay, Winn Dixie, Publix) and a lot of fast food places (Arby's, McDonald's, KFC, A&W, Dunkin Donuts, YaYa's Chicken, Piccadilly Buffet, Hungry Howies, Burger King, Wendy's.)

I bought a bicycle at ABC Bicycles and spent six weeks riding around the St. Petersburg gulf coast area; then sold them back the bike at a huge discount before coming back to Portland Oregon. Budget Inn had the best bike parking situation (I could lock the bike to a decorative metal railing right in front of my room) of the four hotels I stayed at.
