I live near Boyd Hill Nature Park so I have visited there almost every Sunday morning for 15 years. It is a nice walk in nature. Many birds along the waterfront (a lake) and at times, there are alligators sunning themselves on the island or cruising through the waterway. Once found a nest of about 15 baby alligators next to one of the walkway bridges. There are different trails for different viewings but always pleasant. Bikes are welcome. One note: A few years ago the city cut the budget and now some maintenance has been dropped so some invasive plants are growing there and not kept under control as in the past.

Looking for a nice hike through nature in the heart of a city, this is it! Take a look at how St. Pete looked before modern progress took over.

About six miles of trails in what feels like "old Florida". You don't realize you're in the middle of St Petersburg. Trails aren't paved so if you bike you'll want at least a hybrid bike or thicker tires. Lots of wildlife including an easy to view eagle nest along the main trail. Very interesting nature center has great exhibits. Costs $3 per person entrance fee.

Nice park with the Lake Maggiore Environmental Education Center to visit. We went here to see an alligator in the wild and sure enough we saw one. Also saw several types of birds including a hawk, two different species of turtles, raccoons, fish and of course an alligator although I was hoping to see several in their natural setting. Unfortunately he was rather far away and I did not have my telephoto lens.

If you are an environmentalist or fire fighter the interesting thing they have done here is a control burn several years ago to keep the available fuel low in the event of a fire and to see nature coming back from that is extremely cool. There are a few elevated boardwalks but mostly walking paths. There are at least two sculptures that we saw while walking around that were interesting. The really nice thing they provide are water stations throughout the park which I used to refill my bottle.

They have an aviary but it is sort of sad to see the birds confined to such a small space although some looked like they could not fly anyway. Cost was $3 each and we felt that was well worth it.

We visited Boyd Hill as part of a photography tour. It was a pleasant experience seeing how they take care of wounded birds and a nice walk in the woods, but not so much on this visit for photography. They recently had a controlled burn, so lots of the scenery was brown. Another visit in six months to a year will be very different and enjoyable. The staff was particularly helpful and very pleasant to deal with in planning our walks. It is a place to return for another visit once it has greened again.
