Unfortunately the visitor center wasn't open because I think our visit would have been improved with a tour with guide. Great boardwalk especially through mangroves.

I registered for a free walking tour and used my navigation system to find the location of Weedon Island. I was pleasantly surprised to have two guides on our tour. Backpacks with binoculars were available at no charge. The guides definitely made the tour interesting and educational for anyone new to Florida. Will be returning as there are many tours to choose from.

Weedon Island is at the north end of the
St. Pete peninsula and has some nice trails to explore. The state's financial problems have caused the regular closure of the nature center and some other facilities.
Boyd Hill Nature Center is south St. Pete is a good alternative for walkers and birders.

Great kayak trails through the mangroves (last time I was there we saw a pod of manatees). The hiking trail is also nice--don't miss the view of downtown Tampa and St. Petersburg from the top of the observation tower.
