“We were very please with the food and service”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

We went with friends to Tokyo Bay for our first time.

We went around 7:00 pm and were seated right away. Our server was very pleasant and answered all of our questions prior to ordering. Two of us had the all-you-can eat, and two ordered from the menu.

From the menu we ordered the Bento Box and Vegetable Bento. For rolls we had the Mexican, Golden, Spicy Tuna, California, and the Conch. We were all pleased with the food and portion size. We did each order a single roll, and this was servered quickly.

We will definately return.

“A controversial little place...”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

First of all, I can see how a place like this can be deemed very controversial. We did get a Groupon and went to use it, on a Wednesday night, not knowing that the promotion was All you can eat on Wed and Thu 5-9.30, so the place was packed. The negatives were: slightly longer wait time than expected, small restaurant, with not a lot of ambiance (and really bright light, for whatever reason), some cranky patrons and a modest, modest ambiance for sure (unless you are lucky enough to eat outside, where you get the music from the Bayside restaurant, breeze, see smell and better lighting, not to mention no cranky patrons to deal with). For them, one word of advice: its an all you can eat promotion. If you truly want to ingest 19 rolls, get them at Publix, then you can keep them for as long as you want and eat them later. Hmm... warmed up sushi sounds delish. Anyhow, for the price of two rolls or less (an average roll here is about $12, all you can eat is $20), you can get 4, 5, 6, as many rolls as you can finish here. Not letting people take out rolls is like no take out fresh oysters at many places: it amounts to a safety thing.

Now, for the positives... the service was friendly and outstanding. The sushi was GREAT and I say that having eaten a lot of it in various locations in my lifetime. The key to sushi is not having a cold piece of fish on top of a bunch of ingredients, but rather making the roll flow and be tasty as an ensamble. Tokyo Bay does this very well. The beer was relatively moderately priced ($3.25 for domestics, $4 for imports) and overall, it was a plesant dining experience. I kind of wish we were not there for all you can eat night, because you always get complaints and cranky gluttonous customers who think they are getting "jipped" because the 84th roll does not come out quick enough. Overall, this place is very good and recommended. I would make the 30 minute trip across the Skyway again to eat here anyday (very accessible from the Bradenton/SRQ area) and, if you can handle a little wait, some mediocre ambiance, you will get a great meal. As a reminder to all of you complaining about ambiance here, check out the Jiro dreams of sushi movie and see what the ambiance of that place is like. A bar counter with 12 seats in an underpass.

Reviewed January 24, 2013

If you are looking for a great restaurant, you have found it! Whether you are a sushi fan (truly the best on the beach), you prefer fresh fish (highly recommend the teriyaki salmon), or love ANYTHING Japanese, you will certainly find the perfect meal! Tokyo Bay is well-known amongst the locals, and that is always a good sign! Enjoy!
