My wife and I had high tea at Marchand's on Wednesday between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Reservations are required. The quality of the food is pretty good, although they skimped a bit on the fruits and the raw ingredients in the sandwiches. The baked goods were plentiful and excellently prepared. The total bill was sixty dollars for two including tip and no drinks (other than the tea, of course). The atmosphere and water view were both wonderful. Perhaps because of stereotypes, I would have expected a more British atmosphere with frilly Victoriana, similar to what we have experienced at other tea houses such as Lovejoy's in San Francisco. Marchand's is clearly an American-style high-tea event, if there is such a thing. By that standard, it succeeds admirably.

The lunch specials were incredible with a wonderful pumpkin dessert and great salmon for lunch. Was a treat and a special setting a must experience in St Pete.

Had the "early" 3 course special, a good buy at 19.95. I had the veal and it was tasty enough. The salad and dessert were nothing special. My colleagues who had chicken/gnocchi did not finish their meals, and those who had the scallops said they were cold and appeared to be frozen.
Service was good, wine list nice.
The regular menu looked intriguing although expensive. I would try this place a second time but choose something different.

We were staying at The Renaissance Vinoy over the Labor Day weekend and decided to try out Marchand's for breakfast one morning. It happened to be Sunday and they were offering the regular breakfast and also the buffet (very pricey). Although the buffet does offer many items, it just didn't seem to be worth $52 per adult. Although, the atmosphere and the window seats we received were very nice, we stuck to the regular breakfast. Which was surprisingly inexpensive despite what we'd been told. We each got a different item, my boyfriend the three egg omelet and I got the Lemon Raspberry Souffle pancakes and both were good. I'm not big on souffle's, but the raspberry sauce made it worth it. Our server David was polite and professional.

Calling Marchand’s a bar and grill is probably the biggest understatement ever. Entering the opulent lobby of the Vinoy takes your breath away, turn right and continue to the end, up a few steps, and you are greeted by a friendly and efficient concierge. Your first glimpse of the dining room impresses you with open space and light.

I was part of a party of 12 for Sunday brunch. We were seated in a private room elegantly appointed with a central marble table and comfortably upholstered parson’s chairs. We were immediately presented with mimosas, ice water and coffee by our capable waiter and waitress. Said waiter and waitress also ensured that all three beverages were constantly replenished.

The food was good and bad, mostly good. Eggs Benedict were prepared to order: traditional with Canadian bacon and hollandaise, or with fresh salmon and a chipotle sauce. Also for breakfast was a wonderful bread and pastry station, with croissants, muffins and sweet rolls. Complete this with a wonderful fruit bar. Omelets, waffles, and other unspecified items can be ordered, but no one really went out of their way to let us know this, nor were menus provided. I think this would have been better served by adding an omelet station to the Eggs Benedict table.

The carving station provided choices of beef or beef. I especially enjoyed the beef tenderloin, but there should have been turkey or pork as an alternative rather than brisket. The braised lamb was a disappointment. As was the grilled chicken, which was served chilled with a type of bruschetta topping. The seafood buffet boasts king crab legs, caviar, mussels, shrimp and oysters. Fine, if you like that sort of thing.

Incongruous in this elegant setting, the salads and condiments are displayed atop wine barrels. The buffet is completed with a table of cheeses and a wonderful dessert selection, including a three-tier chocolate fountain.

The price is a bit steep at $53 per person, before tax and tip, but considering the ever flowing beverages and above average menu, worth the price of admission.
