“Saturday Disappointment”
Reviewed April 17, 2010

My husband and I always enjoy the St. Petersburg waterfront as it is truly a gem. This Saturday April 17, 2010 it was all about the Mainsail Arts Festival at Vinoy Park on the Bay. Following this extraordinary event we popped in to the Marchand's Grill at the Vinoy Hotel for lunch. This is the second and final time that we will give them an opportunity to make our day. The service was sloppy with a most unattentive waitress - missing iced tea spoon, bread, checking in to see if all was OK and ignored that we were low on iced tea. The food was again not only unremarkable but very disappointing. My husband had lobster bisque that was presented in it's grayish tone with no embelishments. My Marchand's salad had very dry chicken slices, with a sour tasting avacado and again nothing special. The dryness of the chicken was extreme. This is sad because the Vinoy is a very beautiful place. I was disappointed a few months ago in taking guests there after a museum visit.

“Don't miss the special”

Highly recommend the special dinner available for $19.95 between 5-7 p.m., which was not only a great value-it was delicious. It includes 3 courses.

I went for a friend's graduation dinner and I was sooo impressed. I am a vegetarian and they were very accommodating. Everything was absolutely delicious, but be prepared to drop some money. After dinner take a walk around the Vinoy, it's a beautiful hotel.

“LUNCH at Marchand's”
Reviewed December 1, 2008

Spent a day in downtown St. Pete. Wanted some place peaceful and comfortable for lunch. Marchand's is open for lunch from 11:30-2:30PM. It was just what we wanted. The lunch menu was interesting and not outrageously expensive. In fact, probably a bit less than the nearby Park Shore Grille where we often go. By-the-glass wine list was good, although French wines were noticeably missing from the list (There are a few on the by-the-bottle list). I had braised kobe beef with fois gras and onion brulee. It came with an orzo pasta salad and at $16 was the most expensive item on the menu. Most lunch entrees/sandwishes/salads were between $10 and $14. My dining partner had the club sandwich with fresh sliced turkey and real slices of bacon. He order fruit instead of french fries. The food was prepared well but also the mixtures of tastes and textures --- just worked together. We sat until about 3pm and weren't rushed at any point by the staff. The service was excellent. About the only negative I can think of is that lunch is served in the section of the restaurant that does not have much of a view-- great windows, nice palms but basically you're looking at a filtered view of the hotel pool. At dinner , in the main section of the restaurant, the view is of Tampa Bay and the marina.
