We visited the Gardens the second week of May. The $8.00 admission is in keeping with this type of attraction but the Sunken Gardens didn't have as much to offer as other Gardens. There are many many beautiful plants and trees, but there are also a lot of repetitions, so you're seeing the same kind over and over. The butterfly house was empty. There was a large school group present when we visited and that made some of the paths difficult to walk, in addition to being very noisy. (Recommend calling ahead to see if school visits are scheduled before you go.) We found the hours (10:00 a.m to 4 p.m) to be rather limited. It would be nicer to visit the Gardens during the early evening when it's cooling down abit, as the interior is very hot and humid. Overall, we didn't find it worth the drive/time/money.

We have a membership a our local garden which allows us free entry into other gardens in the us and Canada. A great deal.

So it was a free visit. I would check on a guided tour next time.

The trees are so huge and old you are impressed with the base but can't see the top! It's all shady along a winding path.

I was surprised that the entrance is kind of in a strip mall with a carrabbas. At the entrance is also a kids science center play area and there are discounts for both.

We went mid day on a Friday and parking was fine but I wonder if parking is a problem on the weekends.

This place is beautiful. The gardens wind around, and you feel lost, but you're lost in this beautiful amazing place away from everywhere! But you're in the middle of St. Pete! There are a few animals there and quite a few Koi - and they are huge! The staff are great and we're looking forward to going again. What a great experience!

After another cold winter in Florida, we were anxious to find something to do outdoors when the weather broke. The Sunken Gardens were a real treat. Hard to believe that they're in the middle of St Petersburg.

Easy to get to and reasonable admission ($8 adults, $6 seniors, $4 children) make it an even better treat. The gardens are excellently maintained with a wide assortment of tropical flora and foliage. The orchid garden is impressive. You can easily spend a couple of hours marveling at what has been built here.

I am very intrigued by the old (pre-Disney) Florida tourist attractions so when we were in Clearwater in January, we visited the Sunken Gardens. The story of the origins of the Gardens is charming and the Gardens themselves are quite a feat. They're very beautiful and following the winding paths through the Garden is intrigueing. It was quite chilly when we were there and they were using fuel-oil heaters at night to keep the plants from being killed by the frost. The odor of the fuel-oil permeated the gardens and at some point was nauseating. It's a shame it detracted from the experience. I'm not sure what they can do about that. They have to protect the plants after all. Perhaps they could reduce the admission price when the heaters are being used? The admission price is a bit steep; $8 especially in January when nothing is blooming. I'm glad we saw it but won't go back.
