“Jaw dropping hamburger, excellent service, nice location”
Reviewed December 15, 2013

We finally got a chance to go eat at Tryst this weekend. Actually, ate here twice this week, due to a variety of factors.

The restaurant is on Beach Drive in St. Petersburg, which is to say that it's a superb location. A plethora of great restaurants all on the same street, with a nice view of the park and Tampa Bay.

There are a number of tables outside, under huge square umbrellas, which is nice if the weather cooperates. It's far smaller, and noisier inside. They really should turn the music down a touch.

Service is attentive, knowledgeable, and totally helpful. Real kudos to two solid waiters, and the host. There is a fairly extensive wine menu, as well as an extremely large beer menu, if you so prefer, as well as a number of specialty cocktails. We chose the wine, which was reasonably priced and excellent, although they could use to make the wine list a little more extensive by the glass for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignons.

Appetizers were generally excellent. Stars were the Duck Confit Spring Rolls, though they were out of this on our second visit, and Crabcake Sliders. The Baja Tacos, which were Mahi-Mahi were also excellent with a large amount of fish in them. The Wild Mushroom and Gouda Risotto Arancini was interesting and tasty, but not sure I would order it again. Way too high calorie. If you don't care about that - go for it. It was quite good. The Fire roasted Veggie Flatbread was pretty forgettable.

The vegan burger was enjoyed by our vegan friend. The gulf grouper was also authentic and quite good.

The clear star of both evenings was the Morning Glory Angus Prime Burger. It was absolutely superb. By FAR the best burger in town. That was unanimous on the four of us who had one. We were just at Minetta Tavern a few weeks ago in NYC, and I would put this up against their Black Label Burger, which is usually ranked as the best in the country. Yes, the one at Tryst is that good.

The Vanilla Creme Brulee was also quite good, and nice sized.

So a real hit for us. We'll be back for sure.

“Not bad”

A little over priced for me but enjoyed it overall. Got to see free fireworks so that helped. Didn't know what a gastro lounge was.

“Great place for small plates and sharing!”
Reviewed November 21, 2013

Food was great, especially the Angus Beef sliders. If you're looking for awesome cocktails (definitely try their specialty drinks, we had 3 different ones and all were fantastic) and small plates or items to share, this is the place to go. Great outdoor seating with great food. Their regular entrees looked amazing too!

“Also great for lunch!”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

I ate lunch here with my mother before visiting the museum basically across the street. It turned out to be really great for lunch. Rather than ordering meals we split 3 appetizer plates - Yellowfin Tuna Tartare, Artichoke Lump Crab Spinach Dip, and Crabcakes. I liked the tuna tartare the best, followed by the crabcakes, with the dip coming in a solid last place. The dip, unfortunately, had a cheese taste reminiscent of velveeta which really overpowered the flavor of the crab and everything else in it. I would not order it again, but there were so many delicious sounding appetizers that it was hard to choose just 3 anyway so it could have easily been subbed for something else. In general, the quality and presentation of the food justify the higher price tag. The flavors are borrowed from the best of several cultural food traditions, elevated with premium ingredients and great presentation. Would definitely recommend to anyone seeking a fun, adult, higher level dining experience you just can't get at predictable chain or lower cost restaurants.

“Sunday brunch - fabulous!”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

Sunday brunch at Tryst with good friends was an excellent experience... The ambiance of the Gastro Lounge was lovely, along with the friendly staff and wonderfully tasty food. Parker, our server, was very attentive to ensure our visit here was to be remembered. This establishment is well worth a visit and really not to be missed. It added to our experience of visiting downtown St. Pete's.
