My wife was especially impressed with this museum. The docent did a terrific job of helping us understand the art. The visiting Warhol exhibit was also well done. The entry price was reasonable and the Dali is right on the trolley route.

I've lived in Tampa Bay area for 25 years and this was my first visit to the museum. I had heard so many good things about it but kept putting it off. Went to the museum finally because I had relatives visiting who are art fans and they had a special engagement at the museum on Andy Warhol. Both exhibits were great although the Dali was much better. We walked along with one of the free walking tours and our tour guide was very informative about many extra details that we wouldn't have noticed without the guide. They also offered individual earphones for tours as well with information on many specific works of Dali throughout the museum. It was well worth the admission and we will definitely go again

Dali was a hype-master and the building and its collections reflect his finely honed marketing skills, being full of derivative second level "great art", a large store selling knock-off merchandise, a poorly designed and overly-praised building and a terrific location next to the bay.

It's little wonder Dali's colleagues were angry with him, for both artistic and political reasons. He poorly worked in the then-latest "trends" in contemporary (1920-1940) art, before decamping from the fascists he likely supported (He did, after all, return to Fascist Spain after the war); and he was one of the echt-founders of art marketing, before the bushy-haired man who painted "happy trees" with his brushes on TV in the 1960 (or Kinkaid, perish the thought, later).

But, we succumbed to a membership because the current Warhol exhibit is terrific, we were promised a Picasso show later this year, and it eliminated our $5 parking charge.

Well located on the southern end of downtown St Pete, this is a good spot to board the local circulator bus (25 cents for oldies; 50 cents for others) to the major downtown area, which was ALL BUT DESERTED, save for a few blocks at the 1st/Central intersection.

Next time -- a quick trip to see the Picasso exhibit, and then a quick bus to central St Pete for lunch and browsing.

Short summary: Dally, not so much; see the special exhibits and make its parking lot the springboard to some nice times in St Pete.

I was lucky to come here when a great tour guide walked us to the paintings explaining all in detail and given facts of Dali's life. The messages in the giant works he painted could only be appreciated by seeing the real thing. If you are wondering the story behind these amazing pictures you must come here.
Outside the sculpture garden holds more and having marina behind it makes it more beautiful.
I also liked Andy Warhol exhibit. I made 3 videos of myself (3 Min.) and emailed it to friends. This was done with black and white camera (no sound) from silent screen days.
