My wife and I are always looking for unique places to stay when traveling and since we have two boys usually look for a condominium so that we have more space. I came across the Bay Street Villas during an internet search and it looked like a great choice. The property is located about three blocks from the beach in a quiet residential area and overlooks the bay. The property consists of 20 one and two bedroom units and is nicely landscaped and well maintained on the outside. The unit we selected was a one bedroom villa with a sofa bed and kitchen with a door opening out to the pool area and the front facing the bay and Mariana. The representative at the property indicated that the property was rated three diamonds by AAA and would easily be four diamonds if there was a restaurant on the premise.
Upon entering the villa we were very disappointed…The unit was built probably during the 60's and is very small with the living room and kitchen combined. The kitchen was tiny with only a half stove, no counter space, no dishwasher, or disposal. We ended up eating every meal out because of the inconvienience of the space. Who wants to wash dishes by hand on vacation? The unit has hardwood floors that were not quite swept clean upon arrival. The tiny bathroom was also stuck in the 60's, with only a half vanity, wall paper in poor condition, the wood on the back of the door was popping up in strips, and there was no electrical outlet. Towel service is only provided on MWF and we had exactly 4 sets of towels. If you stay over on the weekends you go 2 1/2 days without clean towels, so bring your own if you like clean towels on a daily basis. The bedroom was nicely furnished and had ample closet space. The redeeming quality of this villa was the breathtaking view of the bay through the large bay window.
We complained the first day to the general manager and indicated that the unit was too small and would be staying only 3 of the 5 days we reserved. She offered to move us to
a two bedroom villa however the unit it was not on the bay side. I was then told that if I checked out before scheduled that we would be charged for the full stay so we basically were held captive. During our entire stay I never counted more than two other guest staying at this property and now I know why...The unit was overpriced at $105 per night and should probably be rated two diamonds instead of three. I will say that staff was very friendly and tried to accommodate us during our stay however we will not be returning to this property on our next visit.
