My husband had a business trip and I tagged along. The "big pink castle" on the beach is absolutely awesome to drive up to. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We had a great time at this fabulous resort. I couldn't help imagining what it must have been like when the hotel was first opened in the 1920's. I enjoyed reading about the history of the hotel on the clippings posted downstairs outside the hotel shops. There are some nice shops, a great ice cream store, and a piano bar inside the hotel. The outdoor bar serves up some great exotic drinks and a good assortment of fare to munch on while you are enjoying the pool. We were impressed that the bartenders were able to remember the hotel guests's names and oftentimes what they drank! Very personable! They offer a kid's camp for guests traveling with children which seemed to offer a lot of activities planned in and around the pool areas and the hotel guests' children are kept entertained. They even came around the pool from time to time to offer Italian ice to the guests as well as kept chilled water and pitchers for the guests to use to stay hydrated while you are outside.
Some of the suites have their own private terrace as well as ocean views. There are some large beach beds for two on the beach with curtains that could be drawn for privacy. Very luxurious. A trolley stop was nearby so we could take in many of the local sights without a car. We really enjoyed the Suncoast Beach Trolley. A great way to get around St. Pete Beach.
