“Lovely, relaxing time”
Reviewed January 5, 2005

We were here at the 'Pink Palace' about a week ago. We had a beautiful, large room. Our friends had a smaller room on the same floor but it had a view of the pool and ocean, still quite nice. The two nights we were there were very relaxing. We spent the days at one of the two pools, sipped Key Lime Coladas brought to us by a friendly person, and just vegged. If we had brought the kids, there seems to be a Kids Camp there that would give them something to do while you sip the Colada...oh, yes, and they have family-friendly movies on many of the nights.

There were plenty of perks offered if you wanted, like high speed internet access, CDs brought to the room, in-room massage, a reading lamp, etc.

I didn't make the arangements so I don't know what we spent on the room. But it is by far the most opulent place in the area and worth the price.

Found this hotel average. Did not find the Staff very friendly in comparision to other Hotels Ive stayed in while in the US. This Hotel also turned me off all Pet Friendly Hotels. Would not consider staying in a pet friendly hotel again due to the smell and noise (dogs barking) when trying to enjoy a drink.

We booked this hotel in expedia and when we checked out, we were charged an extra $10 per person per day for a "resort fee", even though we had paid up at the time we booked our hotel on the web. When we questioned this, we were told that it is a charge that all internet users must pay. When we further questioned it, we were told it was to cover our "complementary" parking and the gratuity for the housekeeping. Throughout our stay at this hotel, we were made feel very small because we booked on a website. Their attitute was that if you have to book on a website, you can't afford to stay in aour resort.

My husband and I stayed there for the Thanksgiving holidays. Used the pool, got a massage. Everything very average. Only recommend it if you get a good package deal.

Stayed there 2 weeks ago. I got the room for about $100/night on Priceline which seemed like a good deal. But overall, I was disappointed considering the reputation of the hotel. It just doesn't have the polish of the truly nice hotels, and wasn't worth more than $100.

One big annoyance was that an elevator was out of service for at least a week before we got there, and during the week of our stay. Because we had 2 kids and a stroller, we couldn't take the stairs, and frequently had to wait upwards of 10 minutes for one.

We also had problems with room service, and had to make a "reservation" to get our room cleaned before 5pm.

Just returned from a 9-night stay at "the Don." Agree with most of what has been said here -- service at the hotel is usually very good, and would highly recommend the Maritana Grille. We had the best meal of our vacation there!

It's pretty cool, while walking down the beach amongst a stretch of look-alike motels, to be able to point at that huge, pink building (illuminated at night), and say "That's where we're staying!". It is a beautiful place.

That said, a couple of complaints: The pool area gets crowded and noisy. They also blast soft-rock music constantly which is irritating when you're trying to read or nap. If you try to get away from the commotion at the pool and relax on the beautiful, peaceful white sand beach, be prepared to pay $14 for a lounge chair or $20 for a cabana.

...which brings me to another point. Remember to add $20/night (if there are two of you) to the price of the room you are quoted. There is a $10/per person, per night "resort fee" tacked on which includes such things as use of the gym, shoe shine, and turndown service, if requested. This also is supposed to include housekeeping gratuity, which I felt was sufficient, as a glass end-table in our suite was dusty when we arrived and didn't appear to ever be dusted during our stay.

All in all, this is a very pretty hotel, and it's nice to stay in a place with some character and history, but I don't believe it's quite worth ALL the hype.

Great hotel. The rooms are spacious with big bathrooms. We upgraded to a suite and it was worth it. The Maritana Grill is excellent, a must if you are staying there. The spa is also excellent, one of the best massages we have ever had. The beach and pool areas are beautiful and clean. The only complaint is that service at the hotel is a bit inconsistent. The concierge service was great at times and terrible at others. Also, we couldn't place our oders for drinks or food at the beach. It's also a wedding factory here - be prepared! There were 8 services alone over the one weekend we were here! But, overall the hotel is a cut above the rest.
