“My Idea of Comfort!”
Reviewed January 23, 2009

Well l would have to say the only thing that could be improved would be if the people that have previously written (negative)reports would stay away!
Check in and out was a breeze, Ken and Joe on the desk were absolutely FANTASTIC!
Eg. the sound on our TV seemed funny and l mentioned it to Ken on the desk..within 5 minutes of having returned to our room maintenance was there, not to check out the concern but with a NEW TV!
Dining room was fabulous, pool was ,if anything hot but then we were having a cold snap that week so enjoyed it.
Meals were not fine dining but were very good!
The loud toilets mentioned on earlier posts are high efficiency state of the art !
The only real issue l had was that the windows don't open so l can hear the Oceans roar but then we didn't have a room with the beach access or balcony.
Oh ya..it was very quiet at night so we had a fantastic nites sleep on those big comfy mattresses!
Also there was free wireless that was not advertised!

The stay at the Dolphin Beach Resort was terrible from the beginning. We drove there from Indiana and it was a long and tiring trip. We were excited to go in and rest and take showers, but when we got there we even had problems. We were not warned that we needed to have a credit card with us to check into our room. We left our card at home, because we didn't want to lose it on our way there. We had to wait for about a half an hour for my grandma to leave her house during a snow storm in Indiana to go and find a fax machine and send the hotel a copy of the credit card. We finally got in and we were all tired and ready to sleep. We had requested a roll away bed when we first got there and we didn't receive that until about 5 hours later so my brother and dad had to sleep in the same bed for that amount of time. The remote for our TV was broken and we asked for someone to come and fix it, but they didn't send anyone until at least an hour to an hour and a half later which was after my dad had to go and ask again. The roll away bed was also very expensive for what it was. It was not comfortable and it was very ragged. The next morning I went and took a shower in the bathroom, which was about the size of a small computer desk, and the shower drain was clogged. Also if you do plan on staying there make sure to expect the toilet to make a really LOUD noise when you flush it. Another thing that went wrong was that our room access card was not working and we had to get a new one about three times in order to get in our room. The location was nice, but it probably would have been cheaper to stay at a cheap hotel and drive to the beach. Plus the cheap hotel most likely would have been better.

The hotel was not what they said it would be like. We did not get the room we had booked and that we charged for. They told us the rooms we booked were all full but we were there for five days and no one was four rooms that met the discription of room we booked. The halls were dirty and smelled, the housekeeping was very poor. They also stole a $300 watch , a gold business card holder, and $100. These items were wrapped in a bag and put in the dresser drawer.

  • Disliked — dirty, being robbed, poor housekeeping, paying for accomitation that we did not get

We have just returned from a week at the Dolphin Beach Resort. Great beach front rooms with patio steps to the beach. A fridge and coffee maker were in the room so we enjoyed breakfast on the patio every morning. Great shopping center across the street within easy walking distance for groceries. Walked beach every morning. Between the pool and The Gulf, the water is just spectacular. The beach and pool were spotless. Pool bar was perfectly convenient. Friendly atmosphere offers convenient opportunity for drinks and great lunch, reasonably priced. Weekend entertainment outside by the pool was very fun. Sunsets were priceless and free. Bring your camera!! Spoke to locals who come just for the beach and pool bar! Can't wait to go back and relax during New England's cold seasons.

  • Liked — Friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Great location on beach.

We stayed here for our 2nd week and i must admit the location is excellent. We arrived at the hotel at 10am and were told we wouldnt be able to check in till 4pm and was advised we could leave our suitcases behind reception and could go for a wonder and come back when it was time. We decided to have a work around to familiarise our surroundings. After a long time walking around we decided to go back to the hotel and sit around the pool. As we arrived back reception were checking in 2 coaches full of people and this was 1pm. We asked at reception if we could check in, a man called Joe checked us in. We were travelling with my sister and her partner. we were put in 2 different parts of the hotel which we thought was wrong. I went back to the Joe on reception and asked him why we didnt have rooms together like we asked. he said that because we mithered him ( which we didnt ) he put us on different floors. I asked him to get rooms together. He put us on ground floor and said my sisters room wasnt ready and could they wait in ours, which we agreed to. After 3 and a half hours of cleaning the room my sister checked in to that room. Joe made us feel unwelcome!
After 2 days the staff seemed to be really nice and Joe actually started saying Hello to us like they would normally do to the americans. We spoke to a few brits who also said that the staff never really spoke to them either - so be prepared for that. Also the cleaners left your room wide open to clean them as each cleaner had 1 job each to do in your room, literally people could work into your room and take what they wanted without anyone knowing about it. There was a message on a leaflet that said items are left at your discretion and they will not take responsibility for anything that goes missing - which i think is bad when its the staff that leave your door wide open. We decided to only have our room cleaned once due to this and received fresh towels every day.
If you want to try a good restaurant go to Crabby Bills its really worth it. I would NOT go to Ricky T's which is meant to be a restaurant/Sports bar he was very rude ( taking the mick of english which went on for the duration ) we ordered food which came to us in good timing but 2 out of 3 burgers were red and bleeding. we took this back with chips salad etc on it and got the plate back with just the burgers on it. He was very rude after that so we decided to just pay and leave.
On a good note the hotel was well worth the trip, the location was absolutely brilliant with the beach on your doorstep.

Just returned from a 2 week stay at The Dolphin Beach. The hotel has a prime location right on the lovely soft, sandy beach of St. Pete's. On arrival at 9:00 p.m after a long flight and drive from Sandford all we wanted was a meal and drink. The hotel restaurant and bar were closed and remained that way for the next two days. We were directed to the Village Inn across the road where we had our first taste of American hospitality. All the people we met were great, so polite and always ready to chat and give information. We discovered that most places closed by 10:00 p.m so most nights were in bed by 10:30.
The hotel itself was very quiet, we were told that they only had 12 rooms occupied, until the weekend when a wedding party took over, the bar was open then of course. The entertainment consisted of a singer at the beach bar two afternoon/early evenings a week and kareoke two nights in the bar.
The room was large and clean but with very noisy, out dated air conditioning which we had to switch off at night. We had asked for a sea view but were told we only booked a standard room, if we wanted a pool view or beach view we would have had to pay extra. Our room was on the 3rd floor overlooking the car park but as we had the end room we also had a window with a partial sea view, the only downside was no balcony and the windows did not open. The staff on reception were very helpful with information and maps of where to go, In particular we would like to thank Ken and wish him all the best for his up coming wedding. We ate out every night at a variety of restaurants but we would like to give particular praise to Sterlings which is next to Silas Steak House. We had some fantastic meals there Thanks Sterling and Amy and hope you enjoyed your vacation in Mexico. Our other favourite was Madelina Cottage on Corey Avenue, Gary and Diane, originally from Leeds will make you very welcome and the food has to be tried to be believed. They have a trivia night on Wednesdays which was fun, and a fantastic singer on at weekends. You must give it a try, I'm sure you'll be back more than once. All in all a great holiday.

We just got back from our stay at the Dolphin Beach Resort and I am so glad to be home. At first impression, the hotel was ok. Nothing horrible, nothing great. We were staying for a decent rate, so we were not expecting too much (but it is also their off season, so it should have been a lower rate). We checked in with no major problems. We went to the room to get ready for bed, I (a 5'5 female) got into the 60's style shower and hit my head on the nozzle (if you were any taller I don't know what you would do), then the bathtub backs-up immediately and I have to wash quickly just to get out to call housekeeping. This was our 1st night. The next morning, the maid service did not really clean the room, they barely made the bad, much less give us clean coffee cups and clean towels. (we had to wash our own coffee cups for 3 days... and left them dirty each day just to watch the maid not put out clean ones) That day we went to the bar to get a water, where a large sign said $2 water... yet the bartender asked for $2.50... hmmm, shady activity... then the next day we went up again to a different bartender, who asked for the proper $2. (I think the first bartender decided to put him own tip in the price) At night one of our favorite things to do is sit near the beach and have a drink and listen to the waves. Well, the hotel did not like this. After the outdoor bar had closed we had taken a a plastic bottle down to the beach front, a staff member confronted us and said that if we wanted to continue drinking, then we needed to move inside to the lounge. Who wants to sit inside a dark bar when you could have the beautiful waves crashing in front of you... I have never stayed at a hotel where they MAKE you purchase alcohol from them if you are on their property, but this is obviously a rule at the Dolphin. I think the final straw on the trip was checkout, where one front desk attendant had given us a price on a late checkout and the other attendant charged us twice as much, REFUSING to get a manager, REFUSING to give us a refund, and REFUSING to contact the lady that we had spoken with earlier in the day. I have stayed in some beautiful beach properties and some not so great, but this hotel was by far the worst. The property could have been made better, by a great staff, yet the staff only made the property that much worse.
