The captain was wonderful, one of his assistants took a picture of me and my husband by their boat as we were about to leave, lovely people!!!! had a wonderful time, relaxed, peaceful place, collected about twenty sandollars, plenty of birds, big pelicans, worth the trip!!!! It's a good idea to stay till four!!!

Went out on a Saturday, about 11 of us in all on the 10am ferry, the captain and (his wife, i pressume) were very informative about the island during our journey, told us what to look out for and where, you need to know this is also a bird sanctury so there are borders you cannot cross, this does not impact on your overall enjoyment, the beach is lovely and if you feel energetic, you can walk for ages. We stayed in one spot, near to where we were dropped off, you are given a complimentary unbrella, snorkel, mask and bag for your shells, you just need to take a few snacks and drinks for the length of stay, the shuttles out were, 10am, 12 noon and 2pm, returns were 12.15pm 2.15pm and 4pm. We only stayed until the 12.15 return but really enjoyed our time on the island, the trip over only took about 10 mins and the shells that you find are amazing, some which have made it back to England in one piece.

5 of us took the trip and had a blast! We found plenty of sand dollars, pretty small shells, stingrays and manatee. Recommend!

The boat owners are very friendly. The ride over to the island was smooth and quick. Priced well and enjoyable. Very prompt at pickup and didn't seem to be bothered that they had to wait on us while we were walking to the boat. Will def. do it again.

My family was dropped off after the short 5 minute ride. We were told that any lightening or thunder and the shuttle would return. We sat on the island in a lightening and thunderstorm for over an hour.

We monitor the radar very closely whenever thunderstorms are in the area. We would never leave anyone on the island for an hour during a storm. I suspect that there were storms in the area but the radar indicated that they were still some distance from Shell Key. Because we are so close to the island we are able to quickly pick passengers up in the event that a storm moves in close to the island. Sorry that you felt uncomfortable with storms in the area but I can assure you that the radar indicated that they were not close to the island or we would have picked you up right away. We are a Coast Guard certified vessel and passenger safety is our highest priority.
