“Great beach experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2007

We stayed here for 2 days before heading to Disney World. It is a great place with a beautiful view. Our room had granite counter tops and a large sliding door with a view of the sunset and the Gulf of Mexico. There are 2 pools (1 for everyone and 1 for Adults only). There is a beautiful long beach right in front of the hotel. Very small waves roll in so my 2 and 4 year old had a great time playing in the Gulf. The TradeWinds Island Grand is just a short walk down the beach and they had lots of water toys that you could take out for free.
I would defiantly stay here again. It is sure to be on my places I want to go back to list.

My husband and I stayed for 2 weeks at the Sandpiper in August 07, all I can say is that we had the most amazing holiday ever.
We stayed in a courtyard suite which also had views over the gulf and I could not fault the room. It was spacious, clean and we had a balcony which was a great place to sit and watch the sunset in the evening.
All the staff were friendly and helpful and we always felt at home at the Sandpiper.
The Sandpiper is very small in comparison to some other hotels which we loved because of the intimacy but we went during a very quiet part of the holiday season which makes me think that it would appear very crowded at high peak.
the only thing the hotel would benefit from is a second bar, as I said above it was not a problem for us during the quiet season but could be a problem during busy times.
Overall I would recommend the Sandpiper for couples and any one wishing to spend a relaxing stay on the beach in friendly and welcoming surroundings.

After reading the reviews on most of the hotels in St. Petes & Clearwater decided on Tradewinds Sandpiper in St. Petes. After 9 hectic days in Disney Orlando this was a welcoming 4 day rest. On arrival we were put in a partial gulf view room which i had requested on my booking but not guaranteed. Rooms were clean and cosy with own limited kitchen facilities.

The hotel is located right on the beautiful beach and in August the sun was hot and the sea as warm as bathing water, so cabannas were welcomed. The hotel has two small/medium size pools - the best is one is for ADULTS ONLY!!! Fantastic!

We went to a few nearby hotel bars for evening drinks and although the beach bars have live music with a brilliant atmosphere - they are twice as expensive for drinks i.e. approx £1.20 per pint in the bars, £2.50 for a can of beer in beach bars and you are only allowed plastic glasses (i hate drinking wine out of plastic).

There are plenty of restaurants nearby to choose from. Or if you have a car, i would recommend driving up the coast road to see the different areas and what they offer.

  • Disliked — Cabanna prices $20 per day

Great staff, very clean, loved the adult pool. Everything in walking distance. Snappers resturant is excellent. If you want noise and alot of kids visit the larger sister hotel, Island Grand. Would go back mostly because of the friendly and helpful staff (Carmen) and the clean rooms and beach. If you want to sit close to the water bring your own chair because the cabana's are a long walk to the water. Great place and price.

The Sandpiper is a great hotel for family fun. The beach is beautiful, the pool is nice, and the rooms are nice. I am definitely planning on a trip back. We loved the beach and the poolside drinks! Very relaxing. I have two complaints... 1) there is a VERY loud bar on the north side of the hotel, which blares music until very late! Our bed was vibrating b/c the base was so loud. The hotel was very accomodating in getting us a room on the south side of the hotel. We have a one bedroom suite on the 1st floor that opens up to the beachfront pool. It is great since we have a 17 month-old daughter and she can nap inside the room and we can see the door of the room from the pool. The poolside restaurant has good food too. Things are not cheap, but no different than other hotels/resorts. The employees have all been friendly, the only issue is that we have had to call for maid service for several days and sometimes they don't show up until late in the afternoon. A bit annoying, but it wasn't that big of a deal to us. I will be back!! Make sure to request the south side of the hotel, especially if you have children and will be in bed earlier.

I contacted the hotel and spoke with Valisha. She help us out and all other members of our group. I also dealt with Bob McManaway (i'm not sure how to spell his last name). Bob accommodated us as well.
The staff was extremely welcoming and assisted us in every aspect during our stay. We look forward to staying at this resort in July '08. for our annual trip to St. Pete Beach.

Thank you Trade Winds
Sincerely,
Glenda Marshall

My son and I had an exceptional time on our vacation. It was package deal through Fun Jet Vacations. We were blown away with our room. It was like a suite. One room had two queen size beds and a TV. The second room had a kitchen area that was full of all the accommodations of home, plates, glasses, refrigerator, microwave, stove. This room also had a couch and a second TV. We had a gorgeous view of palms, sand and water. I could not have asked for a more spectacular view and room. The hotel pools were very comfortable for us both. The fact that we had a cabana on the beach every day to enjoy the water was a large plus since you do not want to bake in the sun all day long just occasionally. The hotel supplied towels for the beach and the pool areas that were very plush. The bar area had all that you wanted from smoothies to adult beverages. After a long day on the beach and in the water we were able to enjoy wonderful room service and excellent food. The sister hotel had a couple more pools and restaurants and we were able to just stroll down the beach a little and enjoy their accommodations also. My son really enjoyed the three story tall blow up water slid on the beach. What a wonderful idea to entertain kids and adults all day long if you like. It was the most relaxing vacation that I have ever taken and would love to return next year.
