“Guy Harvey Outpost, a TradeWinds Beach Resort”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

We stayed at the Tradewinds on vacation for 4 nights and I would give it a solid 3.5 stars. Not fancy but our room was small and clean. But for the price, it still felt a bit old and disorganized. The pools are warm and clean, the beachfront is beautiful and facility is well-landscaped and kept up very well. There were a few problems however. Although well-decorated, our standard room was quite small..

This hotel is a nice friendly little property situated right on the beach in St. Petes. It's reasonably basic in terms of facilities but the rooms were spotlessly clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a small little pool bar which had nice staff and better still Happy Hour! The only negative was that in cold weather, there was no real alternative except to sit outside in the cold if you wanted a beer at the hotel.
Otherwise no complaints, comfy beds, clean bathrooms, two good size tv's, starbucks coffee downstairs, friendly reception staff and a minute walk to the beach.
The Postcard Inn just two minutes away had great food and a lovely atmosphere also.

We stayed here for the first time in November and we will never stay here again.
We had a suite facing the water, which was exciting, but as soon as we walked in, we saw a roach on the floor, and a line of ants crawling along a base board so I was immediately uncomfortable. The sliding glass door was very difficult to open and once we opened it, we couldn't even close it - had to ask the hotel staff to close it for us.
The bed was caving in down the middle, so my husband and I were leaning against each other the whole night.
There was a group of teenagers drinking and talking on the pool patio, which was very loud and disruptive. At midnight we decided to call the front desk and complain about the noise. The hotel staff told us they would send security out to resolve the issue because noise was unacceptable, however after 20 minutes of continued partying, we called again and they said they would send security out right away. Another 20 minutes later, we called for the 3rd time and hotel staff apologized but said their security team was busy with other calls and would eventually address the loud group of teenagers. It never got quiet until about 2am. We left this hotel angry, exhausted, and have told all of our friends and family never to stay there. This is the first time I've ever felt this way about a hotel - read all my other reviews on TripAdvisor - I've never been this harsh on a hotel before.

Room Tip: I wouldn't recommend any room.

I stayed here for 3 nights, really couldnt fault the place, the location is great, right on the beach. When i arrived I thought it looked more like a motel the way the rooms are all outside but it was very quiet and we were able to sleep well. The pool is small but very nice. The rooms are large with nice beds, my only complaint is that they are very tired and old fashioned looking but they are spotless.
I changed my money at the front desk from Euro to Dollar and got a really bad rate but Im sure its the same with all hotels.
All in all we had a nice stay here.

Room Tip: I had a room on the forth floor which i found perfect.

We had stayed at Tradewinds Island Grand several times, but it was booked for our recent October 2012 trip, so we gave its sister property a try and were not one bit disappointed. The phone reservationist took the time to ask our preferences and assigned us a great oversized suite with balcony overlooking the adult pool. We were here for a full week (mixed business/pleasure) so the full-sized refrigerator, burner stove and microwave were a great convenience. As members of Tradewind's Paradise Club, a comp bottle of wine and cheese plate were delivered on our arrival...also a comp happy hour daily at the Tiki Bar overlooking the Gulf. The daily housekeeper was exceptionally helpful, leaving extra coffee, towels, etc. as we would request. The room and hotel was exceptionally clean, well-maintained and cheerfully decorated. We were always greeted by someone when we entered the lobby, and employees were always friendly and outgoing when we would see them in the halls, etc. The restaurant had great food just perfect for our tastes with friendly and attentive waitstaff. Ample parking, great location, exceptional staff. We always felt safe and welcome...just a great week!!! Thank you Outpost for a great stay.

Room Tip: The south side rooms are quieter than the north side.

We finally got lucky with Priceline and got a room at the newly renovated Guy Harvey Outpost. My husband and I booked a room to celebrate our 12th anniversary sans child. It was a nice warm afternoon but blustery from the fringe bands of Hurricane Sandy. So it wasn't a good beach day, unfortunately, unless you like sand pelting you at 40mph and getting stuck in your nooks and crannies.

The resort is in a good location, close to shopping, mini golf, and plenty of restaurants. But you really can find plenty to do right at the resort. Your resort fee gets you access to all the fun at Guy Harvey but also over at the other TradeWinds resort just a block south. With 14 restaurants, you definitely won't starve. We only stayed a night so we didn't get to try them all but everything we ate was tasty.

The paddleboats are a cool idea, but the canal is so narrow we saw several boaters get stuck which seemed frustrating. We skipped that activity.

The service is pretty slow at all the places we went, so put on your patient hat. Our breakfast at Guy's Grille on Sunday morning was extremely slow, they lost our order, and only offered free coffee refills as their apology. (Um, isn't the coffee free refills anyway?). The food was good, but the service was pretty bad that morning, maybe it was a fluke.

The lobby coffee shop was also ridiculously slow. I went down to the lobby in the morning to get 2 cups of black coffee and a bottle of water. My husband was ready to call out the cavalry because it took me TWENTY minutes. And there was nobody in line when I got there. She was just THAT slow.

We asked at checkin if they could upgrade us to a gulf-view room and the girl said they didn't have any left. But we were pleasantly surprised when we got to our room b/c it was definitely gulf view. The rooms were very clean and well appointed with a kitchenette, dishes, silverware (not that we used it but good to know for our next stay). There is also a decent fridge, so bring snacks and drinks for your late night or early morning needs.

We will definitely stay here again. The new decor is fabulous, but we are Guy Harvey fans. We hit the GH Outpost store too, lots of great stuff.
