“Great place for a relaxed vacation”
Reviewed April 25, 2014

We stayed at Gulf Strand Resort for six nights in APR14 as a family (Mama, Papa and our 7 yr old boy). We had booked a beach front apartment to have the best view to beach and gulf.

The apartment was adequate in size; it had one bed room plus one living room/open kitchen; plus two separate bathrooms. There is a sofa bed in the living room, but using that as a bed requires a lot of back and forth moving of furniture. So we were happy to get an air bed from reception which we used for the boy, all three of us sleeping in the one bed room; little cramped, but therefore more space and less effort in the living room area.

Best place of the apartment is surely the large balcony with fantastic views. It has two sun beds plus two chairs and is great for sitting outside enjoying the sunset.

The location is ideal, as several restaurants are within easy walking distance, so no need to move the car in the evening. There is also a well-equipped Publix supermarket on the opposite site of the road.

The lady at the reception was extremely helpful and made us very welcome.

Only downside is the cleanliness of the apartment. On first sight it looks ok, but there is a lot of dust under the furniture, on the ventilators (thankfully we did not need to turn them on) and in the corners. There was still an old coffee filter in the coffee maker from the last guests. This filter became alive again :-(. In terms of cleaning more effort is surely needed.

Would we come again? Certainly yes! This apartment had everything we needed. And if the cleaning works better in future, it will receive full five stars from us!

Room Tip: I would always go for the beach front apartments. A little bit more expensive, but definately worth...

Finding a spot at the businest time of year is not an easy task. We were lucky to happen upon Unit 505 in the Gulf Strand condo owned by Cathy Zizik. So off we went to our one bedroom, 2 bathroom condo right on St. Petes Beach. We arrived late on a foggy night and to be honest, couldn't even see or hear the water! After making our way on the elevator to the 5th floor, detailed instructions gained us entry with no problem. Kind of nice to be in a smaller building rather than a high rise, but also nice to be on the top floor! What a delightful surprise greeted us, no mistaking we were in Florida on the beach! Decor is a beach theme, with lots of bright colours and beachy artwork. The place was spotless, with tons of extra linens, kitchenware, etc. But where was the beach!?

As the sun rose the next morning, we opened the blinds to a vast stretch of beautiful white sand beach, with crashing gulf waves . . . paradise! We had breasfast on our small patio then went exploring to find the private pool tucked away between the building and the beach. Publix and a small plaza right across the street, and a nice little Italian restaurant across the road.

Cathy was only able to give us five nights although she offered to find us additional accomodation elsewhere. We would gladly have stayed in her unit longer but guess it's in demand! We were just a short drive to Madeira Beach and John's Pass (lots of restaurants and shops), a much busier place so found a spot there (not as nice and more $$). Would definitely return to Cathy's condo if we were considering the area in the future.

We returned to Unit 201 for 4 nights. We had hoped that the bathrooms would have been updated as they seem to be the original tired tub & showers. The kitchen is lovely with granite & stainless steel appliances. The kitchen sink and faucet are in need of replacing. We are returning in November 2014 and have chosen Unit 201 with hopes of the bathrooms being updated. The tub is chipped and quite dirty. The Master Bathroom shower needs updated tile & doors. Overall it is a nice unit and would be extremely desirable with the updates. After viewing several other units, the bathrooms that were updated were very attractive and would welcome any returning guests.

Thank you Betty for all of your help with reservations & questions. We look forward to seeing you in November.

Room Tip: Gulf Front rooms are the best choice for viewing the Gulf and Sunsets!

We have traveled to saint Pete Beach for several years. This place is the best by far. Location, amenities, convenience, two full bathrooms!, cost, service, Betty the best host with a pleasant, helpful attitude, and surrounding restaurants, pharmacies, liquor stores, attractions, etc.

Room Tip: All rooms are great, but if you want to pay more try to get a room facing the beach and overlooking...

We recently returned from the Gulf Strand. Resort. My sister and I stayed in unit 502. Amazing sunsets we watched from our balcony. Our unit was spacious, comfortable and clean. The kitchen supplied everything we required. This resort is directly on the beautiful white sand beach and we walked for miles in both directions. The staff are so kind and helpful. Always very approachable. Betty in the main office and John, who keeps the grounds and the pool area cared for are so very nice. We return to this resort a couple of times a year and have been for many years. We can not wait to go back in February! My favorite place away from home!

Room Tip: Closer to the front of building. Some road noise as you get closer to the street.

Stayed at the Gulf Strand for 6 nights. This was our 7th stay at this beautiful property. We stayed in Unit 201 facing the Gulf. The unit has updated granite countertops, new sleeper sofa, new chair, new king mattress and stainless appliances. Had a few issues with a broken toilet, screen out for repair for 5 of our days and small black bugs the last few days. Betty was quick to issue work orders to fix our problems. The unit would benefit greatly if the bathrooms were updated. All in all, this was a very good unit and location directly on the Gulf. Will return in 2014.

Room Tip: Avoid units near the street due to traffic noise. Gulf Front are the best.

The 1 bedroom suite was well appointed, kitchen well equipped. manager was personable and efficient so our check in and out went smoothly. Short walk to beach, about 100 feet. Good location (avoid the italian restaurant across the road, poor quality and taste). We would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean facing if you have a choice. Bed was very comfortable.
