“Enjoyed stay, a few more amenities would have helped”

Our first choice for our stay in St Pete Beach in February was fully-booked so we opted for a suite at the Sirata. Because of a mix-up on check-in, we were lucky to be able to choose suites in 2 different buildings & chose a 6th floor suite in building 4 which is an older building. Standing at the sliding glass doors gave good views of the beach & ocean as well as the street. Sheer drapes are needed for this wall of glass windows because otherwise to block direct sunlight, the only option is to close full heavy drapes. Although this was a suite with kitchen facilities, the hotel skimps by providing 2 forks, 2 spoons, etc, 3 mugs, 2 cereal bowls, 2 plates, no kettle, toaster or cutting board - you get the picture. A kettle & toaster were provided quickly on request, no cutting board available.

Cleaning of the room was cursory & minimal each day, most days on telephoned request - "it's after 3pm, can we have the room cleaned please".

We will look for other accomodations here next year.

Hi Everyone.
We just returned from our trip in tampa. We really like the hotel.
Positive:
- Very friendly staff.
- Clean
- Friendly clients (everyone say hi to you)
- Close to every thing.
- Great beach.
- Close to food store (5 min walk, Publix)

Negative:
- if you are looking for fancy place, please go to north. Clear water is a lot fancier and expensive.

We spent 6 days at the Sirata, booked in a package through Expedia after reading several reviews here. Interesting to read so many strongly positive and strongly negative reviews of this place - I've come to the conclusion that people who may have unrealistic expectations or don't reserach accomodations first could be disappointed by the Sirata. On the other hand, if you're not expecting 5 stars, it's great!
Some reviewers complained about the $8/day parking charge - yes, it's an annoyance but it's clearly stated on the Sirata website...again, it's not hard to do some research which may prevent "surprise charges" or disappointments.
On the whole we really enjoyed it - the Sirata deserves a 3- and possibly 4-star rating (maybe once the renovations are finished?). The new owners are eager to please and the employees were friendly and very accomodating.

We booked a suite (bldg 3) which overlooked the pool. The suite was clean and perfectly acceptible, although one bureau drawer was broken and our CD player didn't work - the CD player was immediately replaced with a brand new model and the drawer replaced within 24 hours. I don't travel to sit around in a hotel room so I really can't complain about the accomodations, but one improvement we'd like to see is sheer curtains in the suites so that guests can relax in their room without having to have the curtains completely closed, as the windows face the outdoor hallway/walkway. Not much privacy!

Other than that we had a great time. Mark, our waiter at Mangrove Grill & bartender at the Lobby Lounge, was so friendly & outgoing, and the bartenders at Harry's and Rum Runners were all wonderful. The grounds were well-kept and fun to explore, the pool and beach areas very well-maintaned.
Food is OK here, not spectacular but perfectly acceptible, and there are plenty of restaurants of varying styles and qualities in walking distance. The surrounding area isn't remarkable - the usual FL commercial strip, but again, I don't travel to visit shopping centers and Dairy Queen. Travelers who take time to research the area will find many interesting things to do.

Overall, I'd visit the Sirata again, next time I'd go for an oceanview suite. Several employees requested we fill out the comment card upon our departure. I did, and to my surprise received a personal letter from the owners a week later, thanking me for my comments. Bottom line: the Sirata is a good small resort in a great beach location.
As with anything, focus on the positive aspects of the place and you'll find very little to complain about.

The Sirata is overpriced and poorly serviced. They advertise it as a resort, but it is nothing more than a dirty, dingy motel. The only thing good about the motel is its location, right on the beach. I went there for a wedding, the food was horrible. The wedding party then hosted a brunch the next day...and the food from the wedding was recycled into the brunch buffet. The service, both at the wedding, and at the hotel in general were less than accommodating. The bathroom was tiny and dirty, the shower was rusted and I felt dirtier after I showered. One of the other couples that we travelled with had their plumbing altogether fail, no hot water and ash trays in the coffee pot. I could go on and on. Needless to say, I would NEVER stay at this dump again.

Stayed in Building 1 - building is old, musty and badly in need of updating. The beach and grounds were nice but wouldn't stay there again

This is a good hotel (deserves its 3-star rating) in an excellent location and amazing beach. We stayed in the first (older) building so the room and especially the bathroom were small but nevertheless clean and comfortable. The hotel staff was very nice, pleasant and accomodating. The pool areas are very well maintained with lots of room for everyone to enjoy. There is a shopping plaza with a supermarket about 5 minutes from hotel which was very convenient. There is also lots to do nearby. I highly recommend to see the Dali museum in St. Petersburg and the North Beach at Fort De Soto Park. Overall, we had a superb time at Sirata in St. Pete.

If you really want to enjoy your stay, get an Ocean view suite with balcony. It's not that expensive... Great service, the rooms are clean and quiet, the staff are friendly. The restaurants nearby are good (but stay away from the Subway... the guy who works there is trying to make a piece of art of each of his sub is making..so that it takes 10 minutes to make one!!!)
My little girl really enjoyed it. And the area is very secure... so that you can take a walk down the beach even at night...Great stay.
