If you are looking for the "old" Florida of bungalows, white sand, and quiet beaches, Pass-a-Grille is for you. And, if you want the perfect place in Pass-A-Grille, Island's End is your stop with its lovely grounds surrounded by water on three sides, charming cottages with full kitchens, and all the amenities you need for the seaside. Before we left, we made reservations for the next year.

My family rented the resort out for a wedding and this place came through in every way imaginable. The staff was terrific, the grounds were perfect size for an outdoor reception (wedding was a couple hundred yards away on the beach) and the location couldn't have been any better. This is a low-key, convenient and friendly place to get away.

We stayed in unit A, Sept.17th-22nd. Plenty of space for 5 people, only wish the 3rd room had a bed instead of a sleeper sofa. The staff was wonderful!!!! VERY clean and peaceful!!!!! The view was unbelievable!!!! Spoiled all of us...never want to stay at a big resort again! Pass-A-Grille and Islands End is AWESOME!!! Already planning next trip back!!! LOVE IT,LOVE IT,LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Any unit! Just pick one! Unit A is the biggest.

We have been to this area of Pass A Grille beach several times and always enjoyed this particular beach. Island's End looked and inviting and the manager was kind enough to show us around the property. We were given a gift of an overnight stay for this resort and we jumped at the opportunity. Our stay was lovely, the greeting was warm, the room was spotless and well appointed and the views could not be beat. The resident bunny was especially fun to watch. We will definitely be back!!!

Room Tip: There isn't a bad room so I would suggest take anyone you like.

We had lived in Saint Petersburg for 10 years and had heard many good things about the Island's End Resort. Now that we were visiting Saint Petersburg as vacationers we took the opportunity (for five nights, 16 June-21 June, 2012) to see for ourselves. On the whole, we were well satisfied but there are some issues that prevent a five circle review. We can recommend, easily, the "resort" and might well stay there again (but not definitely) but there are some things folks ought to be aware of.

First, the good things, which were very good. The location, at the base of St Pete Beach, allows for a quiet appreciation of the intercoastal waterway and the Gulf of Mexico. The area around Pass-a- Grille Beach is the most peaceful of all the many towns of this barrier island. There are a few party places, such as the overrated Hurricane bar/restaurant, but it is mostly a quiet residential neighbourhood. Even better, the beachside of the road is free of all construction so you can enjoy the beach and the Gulf without feeling you are in the middle of a condominium community are surrounded by gigantic hotels that block Gulf views and access. You can walk a goodly distance on the beach or the road and still feel you are in a waterfront community.

The cottages themselves consist of six units, with only two (A and F - see map at: http://www.islandsend.com/map.htm ) that are waterfront. The other four are a tiny walk from the Gulf and you can't see or hear the water from the patio. Unit A is large enough two families and has a private pool. We stayed in Unit F which has a marvellous patio with loungers and a table/chairs under an overhang, all facing nothing but water.

Everything was clean and in pretty good shape although there were a few minor things that could use fixing up.

The negatives include price (most are in the $200 range) and something specific to units A & F. It is clear that these units were once connecte a larger unit and there is a locked door between the kitchen of unit A and the small living room of unit F. We could hear most everything said in unit A and the folks there were not particularly loud. Another negative, surprisingly, is the wonderful patio. To get to it you must walk out the front door (in your bedroom, another sign of the previous connection of the units) turn left and walk up three steps to the door of the patio. Anyone who is older, like us, or has any physical problems will have difficulty carrying your food out to the patio from your kitchen. This seems an unnecessary hassle and a potential risk discouraging use of the patio, which would be a major loss to anyone staying there. I don't think younger or very fit folks would have a problem.

If we don't return it's because the only two units with a clear water view are problematic.

The management and staff are outstanding and helpful.

Room Tip: For a water view you need A or F. A is suitable only for larger groups. The other four units are...

The staff is excellent and always ready to help! The grounds are lovely and sooo relaxing. We go as often as we can; but then we live in beautiful, sunny Florida!

Shabby chic, eclectic, safe, sweet, bohemian, just a great escape from the hustle and bustle of life. Privately owned. The owner went out off his way.
