I wanted to let everyone know what happened with us because of hurricane Michael.
We were scheduled to arrive on Saturday after the hurricane hit. Of course there was no way that could happen.
The owner texted me Wednesday night to make sure I knew what was going on.
In short they gave me a full refund without question. On top of this there was a fee on trip advisors part. Trip Advisor also gave a refund. In the end I got every dime back with no issues at all and no talk of insurance.
We hope we can work things out for next year and will will most certainly try this house again.
It’s such a blessing to deal with good honest people, thank you and I pray that your house is ok.
This place was amazing. We loved the house and the area. Beach access was great. The local restaurants were excellent and it was a cozy place to rest and relax. Highly recommend this spot.
House well stocked (kitchen area) and baths were clean and tidy. Loved the beach but the air conditioner and fans made the beach enjoyable. The walk to beach (thru a couple of vacant lots) was short. Loved the space and the ability to put children on one floor and adults stay up later and visit.
We had such a great time. Wonderful house. Perfect for our dogs. Short walk to beach. So peaceful and beautiful.
We like Florida in winter, and we lucked out weather-wise. 65 to 75 every day. We booked this house originally because it welcomed dogs, though at the last minute we decided to leave our threesome home. If I were to describe this rental in one word: spacious. Place was very clean. Main floor has high ceiling, multiple windows, bringing in lots of light. TVs in main room and bedrooms. Balconies on main and top floor. Although we generally ate out, the kitchen is really nice. Very large and well stocked, including a variety of spices and cooking oil. Lots of counter space.
The main floor and top floor have wooden and tiled floors, except for the bedrooms with queens. They are carpeted. So if your dog has an accident, easy to clean up as long as it doesn't happen in the main floor bedrooms. Also, the house is surrounded by trees and a fairly large lot, so if your dogs bark, they won't disturb anyone.
House is 301 steps from the beach via a path, and a lovely beach it is. Some nice restaurants on the island and of course in Apalachicola, across the four-mile bridge. Great hiking trails, especially at St. George Isl. State Park, on the east end of the island, and at Tate's Hell Forest (trails accessible from Hwy 98 near Carrabelle.) See the Estuarine Museum and the Dwarf Cyprus forest nearby as well.
One caution. There are steps from the carport to the main floor and another staircase to the top floor where the king bed is. Both have railings, but if you have an aversion to stairs, take note. One recommendation: the king bed is OK but could use a better mattress. The queen beds are fine.
Owners are friendly. One (Tom) lives on the island. We really enjoyed this rental and the island and plan to return, next time probably with our dogs. Incidentally, if you're a birder, St. George and Apalachicola areas should be great for spring migration.
This was a return visit for us to this property for Christmas. This trip was even better than the last time we visited. We brought our own Christmas tree and decorations and quickly set it up in the spacious living room. We brought their record/cassette player down from the master bedroom to the living room and played our old Christmas cassettes we had. It was quite festive. We played a board game on the large coffee table in front of the couch. Even for a couple, the large open air feeling of the kitchen, dining area and living room gives you a cozy feel. The best part of this place is the quietude and privacy. You don't have to get dressed up to go downstairs to the laundry area. You can wear your swimsuit "at any age" on their decks! The weather was beautiful this visit, so we sat out on the large deck from the living room. It is such a short walk on their path to the beach, that we went everyday. You can also enjoy stargazing from this property on clear nights. You can watch the stars from the skylights too. There is plenty of wining, dining, shopping in Apalachicola, Fla a quaint historical sea town approximately 9 miles from SGI. The island also has most everything you need. The booking process is excellent. The owners get back to you quickly and try to accommodate your needs. The property has most everything you'll need. You might want to bring charcoal, lighter fluid, matches, beach towels, chairs, and cooler. You don't have to have a dog to appreciate this hidden gem.
