Buccaneer Inn
Reviewed September 18, 2007

I stayed at the Bucaneer Inn, and while it is not on a par with major hotel chains, it was OK. The rooms are definately nothing fancy and a bit jaded, but how long are you going to spend in there when you are right on the beach. It is also walking distance from the restaurants and bars.

If you are looking for frills and lace this is not the place for you. Howver, if you are looking for just a hotel room that is clean and close to the beach this is for you. The people at the desk were super nice and even found us a cookie sheet when our kitchen did not have one. The people at the desk were very informative about the area. The room was old but it had been redone and was clean. Overall a very enjoyable family vacation.

This hotel(?) is obviously on its last legs. It has the maximize profit minimize expenses philosophy. Non-smoking rooms have bedspreads full of cigarette burns, curtains wont pull close all the way, they tell you to get a cloths pin to keep it closed, have to PAY for ice out of the ice machine

Do not stay here in the old building. There are 2 buildings, the larger old unit is not fit to stay in. We booked 3 nights and only stayed for 1 night, would not have stayed for that night but could not find any rooms available within driving distance. The newer one has a few gulf front units and must be where the good reviews are coming from.

The hotel is a 1960's era building that needs to be completely demolished and rebuilt. The owners have tried to keep the property clean and painted but the rooms and furnishings are too far gone to repair. The dresser and wood in the room was swelled up and moldy like the room had been under water, the ceiling showed signs of bad stains and peeling cracked concrete, the kitchenette and fixtures were badly rusted, the refrigerator was so badly rusted and stained we would not use it. You cannot close the restroom door while you are in the restroom, the room is too small, and the shower head is 4' high. The grounds were nicely landscaped but had drifts of cigarette butts everywhere.

The staff was friendly and helpful and not at all suprised when we cut our stay short.

Do not stay here.

I will never stay here again. Little late writing the review but we stayed there in Nov 2006. The room was quite expensive during the offseason at I believe around 130USD per night. I believe the room was a deluxe and was in the separate building. As first viewing the room looked ok. It was dissappoining but ok enough to unpack and go out for a tour of the island. It was mainly when we returned to the room and started to use it the all the problems came to "light".
1) The elevator smelled so bad we took the stairs.
2) There were no lights in the stairs and we had to feel our way up two flights
3) there were rusty coat hangers in the hallway
4) Ceiling of bathroom had piles of rust
5) Arm and back of chair were broken with exposed nails
6) Noisy fridge
7) stained carpet
...

As it was quite late and we were only staying one night we decided not to change rooms. In the morning I asked to speak to a manager but none were around but the receptionist handed me a complaint form (from a big pile right on the desk). I was surprised how quickly i received the complaint form. Anyway. I completed the form and heard nothing for one month. I followed up with several emails and finally recieved a response that made it sound like the manager was at a different hotel. ie. The chair was only slightly loose and not broken, the fridge was not noisy ( i had to unplug it), there were no carpet stains, the lights were all ok in the hallway....I had asked for a rebate but was refused. In hindsight, if the price would have been about 49 bucks i would have "got what i paid for"...however, at 129 plus tax...i feel it was way overpriced for what you got.

enjoyed our stay and have returned several times. Great to walk out of your room and be so close to not just a pool but to the ocean. Did not expect the hilton at the price range. Will return again in the next month!

This is an older hotel but the atmosphere and the people are great. The front desk clerks were very polite as was housekeeping. I would recommend this to anyone. Rooms are older but are very clean and have a great veiw of the beach.
