This is a very pleasant , clean hotel situated about 1/4 mile from the beach. You can see and hear the ocean from the higher level floor rooms and is a short walk away. While the hotel and rooms could use a freshening and upgrade both are acceptable and would not necessarily deter me from staying here. Some of the rooms have an odd smell in the carpet possibly from the ocean air or mildew?? If you're sensitive to odors this may bother you. Otherwise the rooms are very clean and the beds typical Hampton comfort. The staff is friendly and efficient and the free morning buffet is what you'd expect from a free buffet. The pool and pool area is very well kept and comfortable. If you're looking for a good place to have dinner try the the Sunset Grill across the street. The food is very good, although a little pricey considering the atmosphere. A1A brewery/restaurant in historic St. Augustine is very good as well.
All things considering this Hampton is a good value and worth a stay.

The beach is awesome even in January!
I have smaller kids so I appreciated that there was a short walk out to the ocean.
The hotel is located right in the middle of things so we could walk to several great restaurants.
The pool is not heated so the kids mainly used the hot tub.
The room size was small but did include a fridge and microwave which is always good.
Now for the bad stuff.
The "breakfast truck" never delivered one of the days on our stay.
They had no backup plan so they served stale danish and leftover bananas.
Even though the hotel was non smoking, there always seemed to be the smell of smoke.
The staff smoked right outside the entrance door.
Housekeeping service was almost nonexistant although the carts seemed to be in the hallway all day.
I had to go to the front desk and ask for TP!
Beds were never made.
Ridiculous to have to deal with this in a $100 plus hotel.
To be fair, after complaints they did only charge 2 days on our 3 day stay.

I hesitate to give this an above average rating, but the awesome views and proximity to the beach pushed me to above average instead of average. The hotel is run like a "mom and pop" owned hotel; one person running the front desk and nobody else to be found. Mind you, it is December and I'm guessing it's slower than the summer months. The hallways really show the hotel's age - with an older drop ceiling and walls needing a fresh coat of paint. The room however, was very clean with updated furnishings. The bathroom was also clean and updated as well. Overall, this isn't too bad of a hotel. I would stay here again.

This property is a mixed bag. Nothing was terrible, but nothing was great either. We paid extra for an ocean view and were given a room on the fourth floor (the top floor). The view was wonderful! Please note that ground floor rooms on the ocean side do not have a water view.

The room itself had comfortable beds and fairly new furniture. However, there were also rust stains on the air conditioner and on the adjoining door to the next room. The closet door was almost impossible to open. The metal track that the sliding door was in was quite high and we tripped over it a number of times going to and from the balcony.

Housekeeping was good but not great. We ran out of both toilet paper and kleenex and there were no extras in the room, so I had to go down to the desk to get more. I closed the door to the room and the light on the ceiling fell and broke. Someone did come and replace it right away. We also had a strong sulfur smell in the room the first night, but it was not there the second night.

The staff were all helpful, but no one was overly friendly. The breakfast was good. The hallways were about the worst I have ever seen in a hotel. Very dark and poor painting job. Some of the ceiling tiles were bending down and looked like they might fall. It reminded me of a college dorm. The pool was also not heated, so it was too cold to swim.

Overall, the stay was decent, but it was not worth the price of $125 a night. If in St. Augustine again, we would stay somewhere else.

We did a good bit of research before selecting the Hampton Inn at St. Augustine Beach. We basically wanted a nice room on the beach for a reasonable price. This hotel met that requirement more than adequately. The room was very clean; the free breakfast was good; the staff was extremely helpful; the beds were comfortable. Our two concerns were that the room with two queen beds was extremely small and the hotel is not really right on the beach. With 2 college age boys and my husband and I, we were extremely cramped. Should have gotten two rooms, but could not afford it at 200$ a night per room. We are somewhat spoiled having usually vacationed at Myrtle Beach, SC where "oceanfront" means you step out the door onto the beach and into the water. This hotel has a walkway out to the beach and over the dunes. Our "oceanfront" room was really overlooking the back parking lot - not what we expected. Overall, this was a pleasant experience and I would recommend it as long as the folks booking the room know what to expect.

Well the staff was teriffic, but the 2 night stay started out pretty dismally. The Hotel itself was undergoing renovation, so I will forgive the paint cans and ladders but the carpeting was in pretty bad shape. Hopefully that's been replaced by now.

To start off they made a mistake with our reservation and we didn't get our beach front room. OK, we could live with that as we were here for the Rhythm and Ribs festival anyway not the beach.. the room we did get was a handicapped room. The flexible flaps that are supposed to prevent the shower water from leaking out all over the bathroom floor were in such poor condition that we used most of our towels to stem the flood from exiting the bathroom.

The wireless internet was out all over the Hotel for the duration of our stay. The staff very kindly made arrangements for me to use the business center at the Hilton across the road.

To cap it off the toilet had an obstruction that manifested itself by fountaining feces when flushed the first morning.

In defense of the staff the toilet was fixed and the floor disinfected within 20 minutes, the shower seals were fixed that afternoon and our first night was free.

One bright spot is the Sunset Grill that is right across the street. That is the place to eat especially if no one wants to be the designated driver.

I hope the place has been renovated in the meantime. I've never been to a worse Hampton Inn in my life.
