Hampton Inn St. Augustine Beach
Reviewed July 4, 2011

This is a great beachfront hotel for kids and families. The hotel provides direct access to the beach, which has lifeguards and beach equipment rentals. If you don't like the beach their pool is nice, the hottub was out of order during our stay. They also have a playground for the kids, which is a nice bonus for the younger ones.

Free breakfast is served daily: waffles, fruit, yogurt, cereal plus rotating items. The hotel is only about 10 minutes from St. Augustine if you need shopping and restaurants.

Rooms are basic and functional. Nothing fancy, but they do have WiFi, microwaves and refrigerators.

The location is what we loved, would stay here again just based on that.

Recently stayed here for 12 nights in June. Had a fantastic stay and can't wait to go back. The hotel was clean, breakfast was good with the ability to make your own fresh waffles, free coffee during the day and warm fresh baked cookies every night. We stayed in a family room on the 3rd floor overlooking the ocean with a fantastic view. Got up early one morning to watch the sunrise and it was amazing. Would recommend this hotel for a lovely, relaxing holiday. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and Ashleigh on the Reception Desk was outstanding. Very good location and right on the lovely St Augustine Beach which we adored!

Although it is an older property, it is very well maintained. We received an upgrade at check-in and really enjoyed our stay. The room was CLEAN with a great view to the beach. Parts of the hotel were being renovated while we were there but it didn't effect our stay. When we return to St. Augustine Beach we will definitely stay here!

This was our third trip to St. Augustine and the second at this hotel. We love it! Check in was easy and we were upgraded. Staff was friendly and was always greeting us. The room had king bed, fridge, microwave and plenty of storage. We are not pool people but did use it on afternoon. I am not sure if it is cleaned everyday, but we were in about 4 and the pool had bugs and lots of sand in it. The best part is the beach. A short walk out the back door. Beach service is available. Great restaurant across the street ( shrimp and grits is A-mazing) called Sunset Grille. Lots of other great places near by too. A Publix is down the street for any grocery needs.

We used this as a fun stopping point on our way from Miami to NC. The beach here is beautiful. We brough our own beach stuff, but chairs and umbrella's do cost money to rent. The hotel is older, but the location and customer service makes up for it in my opinion. the pool is small, but clean and refreshing after visiting the ocean. the guest laundry is adjacent to the pool so if you are staying for several days, it is easy to do your laundry while not detracting from your pool time. Breakfast is average and seating can be limited during the busy times. If you are looking to stay at a very convenient location right on the beach with your family, this is a good bet. It really is no frills, though. This is not a "resort." If you go, consider eating at Mango Mango at A1A and A street. The lifeguard recommended it and it was great. It is just a little ways further down the beach.

Overall this was a great stay. The breakfast was nice, but packed. The hotel is right on the beach and across the street from some restaurants. It is a convenient location to hang out. It is maybe a 15 minute drive to the historic St. Augustine. The hotel is a little old and our A/C unit took a looooong time to work and we had to set it to 10 degrees cooler than we wanted to get it cool enough. The hotel is loud too although we were prob. super sensitive due to having sleeping babies.

We visited the Hampton Inn on St. Augustine Beach in May 2011. We had made reservations the day prior to arrival to stay two nights. We reserved an ocean front room given that the ocean is very nice in St. Augustine. Upon arrival, we found the gentleman in front of us was having a problem with his reservation, something to do with the number of nights. Once it was our turn we found that the hotel had only booked us for one night instead of two. Another thing we noticed is that the lobby was under serious renovation - plastic everywhere, fresh paint and the like. We disregarded this at the time. Since it was evening already we decided to stay the night and find something new the next day. The Players Championship golf tournament was a short distance north, which is probably why our reservation was incorrect... Once we got up to the room, we found the entire floor under renovation with fresh paint and plastic sheeting like the lobby. The smell was overwhelming and with two small children this was an issue. The oceanfront room was very disappointing as well. It overlooked a parking lot that overlooked some grassy sand and then way off in the distance was the ocean. All these factors together caused us to return to the lobby and give up the room. The man at the desk was pleasant given the situation and gave us a full refund for the room.
I'm sure once the renovation is complete the hotel will look beautiful, but beward that the ocean is a fair distance from the hotel.
