Holiday Isle Oceanfront Resort
Reviewed March 12, 2011

The hotel was once a Holiday Inn, it still has the sign on the road.
Rooms are showing their age, but not bad for the price.
There is no safe or microwave in the rooms, something thought was standard.
Maids aren't too bright, kept forgetting to leave us towels and coffee.
We were on the 4th floor. On our balcony, there are wooden supports holding up the 5th floor balcony! What a cobb job, that can't have been approved by any code enforcer.
Best part about the place is the oceanfront. Pool area is nice and very nice pavillion near the beach.
If you do go, get a room facing south, gets more sun. And be careful where you park, lot really floods when it rains. Check out my pictures.

This was, until very recently, a Holiday Inn. When we pulled into the parking lot on February 24, 2011, the Holiday Inn sign was still out front and other Holiday Inn items were still around the hotel. What I believe is that the Holiday Inn just stopped maintaining this place and sold it to a management company in lieu of dropping big bucks into a major refurb. The whole building was just beyond it's years. We ended up in two different rooms because in the first, our toilet wouldn't flush. Both of the rooms were very, very tired with awful carpetting, cracked and broken tiles and furniture that should have been sent to Sally Ann years ago. The doors and windows needed to be replaced 10 years ago and the balcony dividers were just painted 2 x 4s! This wasn't a place to be proud of. You'd never walk around barefoot! We should have asked for better rooms but.......did anything better exist in this hotel? Doubt it!

One thing that we can't critcize though is the service. It was excellent and the staff was friendly and helpful. The location (it really is right on the Atlantic) is outstanding with quick and easy access to the ocean.

Until this building undergoes a major upgrade, I'd stay far, far away.

MikeNet, thank you for staying with us and for your honest review. After being a Holiday Inn for many years, our owners recently decided to go independent and we have been working hard to replace all the Holiday Inn branding and update the hotel. Our new sign by the road has just been completed and installed. We are also in the process of updating the hotel further. Both the oceanfront rooms and the north-facing rooms have been renovated in the past few years, leaving only the south-facing rooms which you must have stayed in. Our south-facing rooms are more weathered, but are still clean and comfortable and are a good value for the location. Housekeeping is deep-cleaning all the carpets and maintenance is doing minor upgrades until the full south-side renovation happens. Thank you for complimenting our friendly and helpful staff. I will pass those comments on to our employees as well. We hope you come back and see us again.

So not stay here unless you want to be called at 3am and called a liar by the front desk clerk! I was in St Augustine on business and I wanted a room on the beach so I booked a night at this hotel. Everything was fine until 3am when the phone rang and it was the front desk. The night clerk stated that she had a noise complaint from my room and that I needed to take care of it. I explained to her that I had been asleep since 11pm and that there was nothing going on in my room. She proceeded to call me a liar and hung up. I could not go back to sleep because I was so upset at the way I was treated. I went to the front desk at 7am to check out and asked for the manager. I told her that I was not going to tolerate being treated that way and that it was very disrespectful of the clerk to treat me in that way. I would understand if there was something going on, like a party in the room, but the television was not even on! So, to sum it up... DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!! EXTREMELY BAD SERVICE AND VERY RUDE STAFF!!!!

We strive to provide every guest with a clean, comfortable and quiet room. It is our policy to not call a room regarding a noise complaint without going outside the room first to verify it first. We have thoroughly apologized and refunded the guest 100% for the misunderstanding.

Former Holiday Inn offers a great location on a great strip of beach. The hotel staff was pleasant and friendly. The hotel is a little on the tired side, but acceptable. Hotel pool is not heated. The beach is wonderful. For the price, it was a good deal for a last minute girl's trip. We did not plan to be in the room much, except to sleep.

Thank you for choosing our hotel for your last minute girls' trip. We are a older hotel, but we are constantly making improvements to better serve our guests in the future. Within the past few years, the oceanfront and north-facing rooms have been renovated, leaving only the south-facing rooms left to complete. We are also working to update the pool and tiki bar area for this summer. Please come back and stay with us again.

Hello greggwill2, thank you for celebrating your daughter's birthday with us. Our owners recently elected to become independent of the Holiday Inn brand, and we are working diligently on changing everything over to our new name. We apologize that some GPS devices are not recognizing the new name just yet, but they should be soon. We are glad you called and we were able to guide you to us. Please come back and stay with us again in the future!

This is our 3rd year staying in St. Augustine on our way down to Southern Fla. This is the first time we stayed out on St. Augustine Beach. We chose this hotel because it was pet friendly and the couple we were travelling with have a small dog and the hotels down town that allow pets are very seedy. What a great choice. It is so much nicer to wake up in the morning and have your coffee on the balcony overlooking the pool and ocean than a parking lot in the city. They only allow pets on the first floor so if you have allergies or don't want to be next to a room with a yapping dog, you don't have to be. Our room was nice and clean. The beds were very comfortable. We had a large flat screen TV and a refrigerator but no microwave. Some of the rooms do have microwaves but they said ours was not wired for one. Room service left a little to be desired as it took 2 days to get a box of tissues and the room was not cleaned one day.

Our only disappointment was the fact that the inside and Tiki bars were closed for the season. The restaurant was only open for breakfast but we were not impressed with their meals. There are a lot of nice restaurants and bar within an easy drive.

If you don't want to drive into historic St. Augustine, there is the Beach Bus that will take you in town for $5.00 and picks up at the hotel every hour.

Hello PASANDYBAY,
Thank you for staying with us here on the beach. We are sorry the tiki bar was not open when you were here. It normally doesn't open until closer to summer, but we are working to get it open sooner this year with all the warm weather we've been having. As for our restaurant, our chef has just created an exciting new menu with is guaranteed to satisfy. We hope to welcome you back to the St Augustine area again next year.

We have stayed here twice, once on a pre-booked trip and once on a spur of the moment change from the disgusting St Augustine Beachfront Resort. Yes, it is an older hotel but it is very clean and comfortable and the staff is AWESOME! They bent over backwards to accomodate us at the last minute (for an extended stay over a holiday weekend) and made us feel like it really was a pleasure to do it. One of the employees even let my 7 year old "help" paint a door just b/c she said "I like to paint", could you ask for more? Every employee you encounter is friendly and warm and willing to help w/just about anything. I like that you need a room key to enter the pool and was impressed w/the constant supply of towels on hand at all times. Housekeeping was EXCELLENT and very much appreciated. We will never stay anywhere else!!!!
