“Great place to stay!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2008

We stayed there for 5 nights and were delighted in our room that faced the pool and beach. A short walk through the pool area, through a gazebo and you were on the beach. The beach is nice and clean and not crowded at all. Has a outside bar area that is open during the day beside the pool. Nice clean hotel. We saw signs saying they were doing some renovations on another floor, but we never saw anything wrong, so it didn't bother us. The staff was extra friendly. Check in and out were fast and simple. We ate breakfast in the dining area and it was great. Close to lots of shopping, and restraunts and a short drive to the St Augustine historical district. There is a putt-putt golf course that is within walking distance of the hotel that is nice to go to in the evenings. It was a little pricey, but still a good value. We will definately be staying there again.

First of all this is a Holiday Inn. And its on a beach. And its not a 5 star hotel. Many of the reviews are extremely harsh - if you go into the hotel expecting it to be your average Holiday Inn on the beach you'll enjoy!

The Good: Rooms bigger than expected. Our room had a table and 2 chairs, mini-fridge and a balcony. The room was dated but clean. Nice pool area (plenty of chairs), great access to beach. Staff was friendly. Added amenities which we didn't expect (welcome "gift" of bottled water and snacks, area to access the internet, ice machines on every floor, laundry room)

The Bad: Construction Noise and elevator maintainence. There was constant construction in the rooms facing the beach so if you sat by the pool it was very noisy. The elevators (there are 2 on each floor) were extremely slow OR did not work. The staff was apologetic but it was frustrating.

FYI: many of the rooms have balconies which are "ocean view" however the majority face the parking lots so you can see the ocean but I wouldn't really call it a view.

Location - make sure to call for directions - the directions given on Map Quest were wrong! The hotel is one of the last ones on the beach side before you start getting into condos etc.

Restaurant Review: Definitely go to Sunset Grille - good food, huge portions, great price! Stay away from The Conch House - great atmosphere but the food is terrible and over priced!

Hope this helps!

My husband and I stay at this Holiday Inn from May 8th thru May 10th. It is clearly a very old Holiday Inn in desperate need of an overhaul. The front desk and cleaning personnel were very friendly and always helpful.
We ate at their restaurant one morning and ordered the breakfast buffet. It was OK. Nothing special and somewhat limited for the price.
For the price it is not really worth staying here ($129 per night). Clean but in great need of a face lift. I would not stay here again. There are pleanty other national chain hotels on the beach that looked way nicer.

We arrived early to enjoy the beach & pool before the storms started. The staff was very friendly and very accomodating in getting us an early check-in. The hotel in general is nice; you can tell it's an older hotel, but it has been renovated and upgraded some. The room was very clean and the view was spectacular. We had a pool front/ocean front room and it was definitely worth it!! The pool was nice and clean; staff at the pool Tiki Bar were very friendly/accomodating and the beach access was perfect.... not a long walk at all. I definitely reccommend this hotel.

The location is absolutely beautiful.Top floor over looking the pool and beach was fantastic.Sunrise over the Atlantic was worth the money The room was very clean. The staff was very nice and accomodating.

The restaurant was very plain. Hard to have romantic dinner with all the bright lights,we felt we were in a high school cafeteria, the menu was rather bland. The service was however excellent.

The lounge was decent.

My husband and I stayed 4 nights and it was fabulous. Granted, this is NOT a resort hotel..we made our own fun in nearby Augustine (also fantastic), but the room was clean and comfortable, the beach access was like a dream come true. Only complaints were: 1. Wish they had changed the sheets daily 2. Wish the Tiki Bar had been in business...but really, we had far too much fun to care and would certainly recommend as a fine value.

Stayed at this hotel during 2008 Daytona 500 weekend. Was concerned after reading reviews but decided to keep reservation.
Hotel provides basic accomodations at a reasonable price. Very convenient to Speedway. Easy beach access through pool area (web pics are old ,there are properties on both sides)
It's an older facility but it appears they've made attempts to update it (new wallpaper/trim, fresh paint). Fragrance sprayed in room prior to arrival faded over time to reveal a musty odor.
Balconies are small so you may be subjected to your neighbor's conversations or second hand smoke.
I'd stay here again but would request room directly facing beach.

HINT: for a great meal try Mangos Mangos. It's built into a house at A1A and A Street. Excellent selections and atmosphere.
