One of my favorite things about this hotel and resort is the friendly reception from the time guests arrive until they leave. The entire staff makes an effort to be helpful and assist with every little detail to be sure the guests have a relaxed and enjoyable stay. The several banquets we attended were wonderful. The food was very good and served warm even to the last tables served. Hats off to the Chefs and wait staff! The gentlemen at the Bell Stand just amaze me with their ability to load those carts and only use one cart for everything in the trunk plus the back seat. How do they do that? Check in could not have been easier or more pleasant. They were all most helpful and seemed to be very knowledgeable of the hotel and the St. Augustine area. Be sure to check out the shuttle to down town St. Augustine when not playing golf. Everyone in our group had great things to say about the housekeeping staff and that their rooms were kept clean from beginning to end. In behalf of our group we thank you for another great week.

Room Tip: We love having a balcony but not all rooms have one. Be sure to ask for a balcony room if you will h...

Great golf hotel, but wonderful place to stay if you don't golf. Staff are extremely helpful. Beautiful linens and beds. Outlet shopping and beaches/old st. Augustine are a drive, one or two exits on 95, but worth the stay here.

Room Tip: Hotel is open in the center, so there is some lobby bar noise that can be heard from rooms located i...

This is a beautiful place, some of the amenities seemed not quite up to par. I decided to stay in one night and sit in the sauna. I went in and turned it on after 15 minutes nothing was working. I decided to go out and sit in the hot tub, the water wasn't very hot and only one of the 8-10 jets was working. Disappointing for a place of this caliber. The view out of room was less than breathtaking as it looked out over the roof of the convention center, they did throw a couple of plants outside the window to "help" with the view. They did a great job with the convention I was there to attend. The food provided at lunch was very good.

WGV fun place. Hotel staff was most helpful with "to do's" after golf, especially Mike. Breakfast buffet in Villagio restaurant a good start to long golf days.
I was a bit disappointed that lots of the shops in the WGV were no longer open but there is still quit a bit to do other than golf.

Room Tip: Should have gotten a room with a balcony.

I attended a convention at this resort for the second year in a row. Rooms were spotless, little noise, all views from rooms are breathtaking.
Restaurant prices were on the high side, but the food was worth the money. There is a bar menu with lower priced items. The Caddy shack next door had excellent food too, but at a lower price range.

Room Tip: Ask fora room with a balcony when you book your room.

The building, common areas and rooms are pretty standard Marriott accomodations. Pretty good, but nothing special. Decor in the main lobby area is a little weird and disjointed, as if they started with one theme, then changed their minds, then just said, "To heck with it." The grounds around the hotel are nice, but again, nothing really special. Some aspects were above-average. The front desk, valet/bellmen and housekeeping were all very good. Front desk was very accomodating.

The hotel restaurant/bars were mediocre at best. Food was acceptable, but the waitstaff was very unorganized and inefficient. They rarely came by to check on refills, or anything else, for that matter, and they weren't very busy. It was especially bad in the bar. I'd hate to see how bad it would be if they were busy. This problem seemed to persist throughout the entire resort. We ate in both of the golf course restaurants, and had bad service there too, with one exception. At the Slammer & Squire course, the young lady that served our breakfast was quite a good waitperson. Food in the golf course restaurants was sub-par, even compared to the hotel food. The best food and service within the resort is at the Murray Bros. Caddyshack, which is a part of the resort, but not in the Renaissance Hotel.

We checked in after 4:00, and although there wasn't a line, the process was very slow. The lobby at this property is very nice and open, with substantial seating areas. The rooms are in desperate need of a makeover. They are unimpressive, and are comparable to a Fairfield room. The interior of the room was clean but very plain. The balcony area looked as though it had not been cleaned for some time, and there were cobwebs everywhere. Apparently, housekeeping must not get to the balcony area at all. It was so dirty that we didn't even feel comfortable sitting there. In the suite, there is only one thermostat for both the bedroom and living room area. The bedroom was very cold, but the the living room was extremely hot. This made it extremely uncomfrotable to get ready, since the bathrrom is off the living room area. Appparently, it was not just a problem in this room, since we had more than one room and those other rooms had similar problems with the a/c temperature. We were told that the a/c would automatically shut off when we left the room and that this may have been the problem; however, that was absolutely not the problem. After being in the room all day, the living room area was hot! The fitness center is extremely small, especially for a resort property. The pool area was small, but there were umbrellas available for shade. The male employees we dealt with at the front desk were inefficient and seemed to be inexperienced, although there was a female employee who was extremely helpful and pleasant. On the plus side, the bar area was nice and the bartenders were pleasant. Unfortunately, this property is not on the level of any other Renaissance we have visited, and needs some work . Until they make some upgrades, we wouldn't recommend this property.
