“Nice room - Good price”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

I'm not a fan of hotels with doors that open directly to the outside but the price was right and location good so took a chance. Didn't help that we were immediately approached by a person on a bicycle asking for money as we were entering room. However he rode off with no incident and we had no further issues even when walking at night. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. No smell that we could detect. Air conditioning sound was what I consider "white noise" and didn't interfere with our sleep. The water in the shower did immediately get hotter when I guess someone in the next room either turned on their water or flushed so be prepared. The hotel staff was very kind and helpful. We didn't mind walking to the historic district as there was much road construction going on downtown but it is a mile to St George Street so be prepared. It is very close to a trolley stop at the Old Jail. I thought the waffles were very good and appreciated the fresh fruit. Variety of cereals and the coffee was good. I had no problems with the WiFi. For the price, we would stay there again.

It was just ok. Clean but overall musty smell. The price was right for a quick night before a race.
The room was clean and the beds were nice. Just very, very musty.
The food in the lobby was all around the room. Due to the room being to small to allow to many to eat at once.

Room available at 12.30 which was good. Efficient check-in, decent, standard BW room, all you need but Wifi a bit patchy in room so had to use PC in lobby which was fine as we needed to print some stuff. Very noisy air con. Modest free breakfast, no hot food and very limited seating, they suggest you bring a tray from your room and take back. Great for Trolley Tour, reception phone for shuttle bus for you, very quick and they also bring you back. No eating places within walking distance but short ride to main town where there are loads of good bars and restaurants. Otherwise recommend Schooners ("locals eat here"), about 1 mile north on US1, great food and service, very good value. Not the greatest BW but good location for doing St Aug and at around $60 per night, really can't complain.

Room Tip: Guess all rooms the same, but you may want to ask if any have with quieter air con.

We just returned from an overnight stay at the Best Western Historical Inn in St. Augustine. This Best Western is across the street from the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind wedged between San Marco and US-1. The Inn is squeezed in next to a Hampton Inn. Squeezed is your key word. The parking lot is very tiny and the two hotels share a common exit. The check in desk and lobby are extremely small (barely room to move around in the breakfast area). There is a very small continental breakfast with just the bare basics (waffles, plain bagels, yogurt, oatmeal, etc). The rooms themselves are spacy but the bathroom is so tiny that you can barely fit in it. When you step into the shower it is like stepping into a tiny closet. Be very careful with the shower. The hot water fluctuates between scolding hot and warm. They apparently have a water softener system because when you shower the water is very soft and it is difficult to rinse the soap off.
The beds in the room are very comfortable as were the pillows and the room was fairly clean. I discovered a little bit of trash under the bed while looking for a missing shoe but it may have just been missed by the house keeper. The sheets and blanket were soft but worn out.
Our stay was okay. The staff are very friendly and helpful here. The hotel could use a little updating (including linens) but otherwise was okay. This hotel is very convenient to everything in the downtown St. Augustine,. Most of the history is within walking distance.

Room Tip: choose rooms in the middle of the first floor for most convenience.

I booked this room after reading the reviews(some not flattering) but the rooms in the pictures looked nice.. So glad I did as the room was really nice. The desk help where so helpful & friendly. The hotel is a small walk to the sites on the far end of the tour. This is a nice place to stay and for the price, you can't go wrong!!

Room Tip: If the room you are given doesn't "smell" right ask for another room right away, earli...

We picked the Best Western based on reviews. We were dropping our sons off at Flagler College and needed a room for 2 nights. The hotel was very clean, everything in the room worked except I had problems with the directTV remote. When called the staff came twice to remedy it. All the staff were very courteous, professional, helpful and efficient. The front desk women gave excellent restaurant recommendations. The room was an average hotel chain room, nothing fancy, clean, comfortable beds, clean bathroom and free wifi. Pool was clean, hot tub hot! A bit of a walk to the historic district, but can be done. We will be trying a B and B in October, but would use this hotel again. Big plus was a Flagler College Parent discout.

Room Tip: If you are a Flagler parent mention it for a discount.

The overall look of the hotel isn't bad. I read a review that it was in walking distance of downtown. It is only within walking distance if you feel like walking a mile or more. The room was very clean. The only issue I had was the toilet, it was way too high to sit on and my feet would dangle a little and I am over 6' tall. (Not like you wanted to know that) Not sure if it was just the room I had or if every room is like that but they overall experience wasn't bad. I will try to find a hotel closer to downtown next time though.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of the Best Western Historical Inn. You must have stayed in one of our king mobility accessible rooms. The toilets are a little higher than normal, for ease of use for guests with mobility issues. I am glad that didn't stop you from enjoying your stay with us.
