Owner description: Located in historic St. Augustine, Florida, Memorial Presbyterian Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). We are not just any church. We are Florida's first Presbyterian congregation, established in 1824. CNN has named us one of the eight religious wonders in the United States. The present sanctuary was given by Henry Morrison Flagler and dedicated in 1890 as a memorial to his daughter Jenny Louise Benedict who died from complications from childbirth. Mr. Flagler, his first wife, Mary, daughter Jenny Louise and granddaughter, Marjorie, are entombed in the Flagler family mausoleum at Memorial. The church is open for visitors Monday-Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Enjoy a tour of the church by one of our trained docents during the week and then return on Sunday to join us in worship. Our visitors come from across the state, the nation, and the world.

This church is amazing from the outside, but be sure to go inside as well. We were fortunate to catch an organ concert, so got to hear the magnificent Aeolian-Skinner organ. The church is unusual in that the organ, pulpit, and communion table are located in the west transept instead of the "front" of the church. This was so that a Sunday School area could be added at the front. The other unusual feature is the mausoleum, where Henry Flagler and part of his family is interred. Its stark simplicity is a contrast to the ornate dark wood of the rest of the church. Imagine being able to build such a dramatic memorial to your daughter!

Beautiful church and worth a quick look. There is no admission but they do ask for a donation. The church is beautiful and Flagler's grave and the graves of his first wife and daughter are inside in the mausoleum. Check it out. Outside looks a lot prettier at night with the lights on the dome.

During school year..come for Wednesday night dinner at 5:20 then round table discussion. bring teens...great youth meetings after dinner. This is a very alive church. We found it on the internet and will probably join. Youth pastor is awesome.

Also there is a contemporary service at 5 pm Sunday evenings. Dinner is provided right after the service. The youth eat together.

Make sure you stop here when visiting St. Augustine. You can just take a walk inside and marvel at the architecture, frescoes, and handiwork that make up the building. I visited St. Augustine during Easter weekend and chose to attend a service here which was not what I am used to but it was interesting to experience.
