Owner description: San Sebastian Winery, founded in 1996 is located at 157 King Street, St. Augustine, Florida in one of Henry Flagler’s old East Coast Railway buildings located just a few blocks from historic downtown. According to historians, this area is the birthplace of American wine, dating back to 1562. Today, San Sebastian ranks as one of Florida's premium wineries, and remains a pioneer in the development of table, sparkling and dessert wines from hybrid and muscadine grapes. Port and Cream Sherry dessert wines are produced by and sold under the San Sebastian brand. All together, San Sebastian labels have won over 1,600 awards for excellence in winemaking, with more coming in each season. Every year more than 100,000 people are expected to visit the winery’s extensive tasting room and wine shop. San Sebastian Winery has an overall production of over 80,000 cases, (that’s over 960,000 bottles!). San Sebastian wines are sold at the winery and at major supermarkets and wine shops throughout Florida and Georgia. “The Cellar Upstairs” Wine, Jazz & Blues Bar, open weekends, is located on the rooftop of the Winery building and is a best kept secret with locals. The Cellar Upstairs features incredible live music from a wide range of talented local and regional Bands. Relax to the music and enjoy the tremendous views overlooking the St. Augustine skyline while enjoying a glass of San Sebastian Wine, draft beer and light appetizers.

“Disorganized and disappointed”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

We stopped here hoping to take a tour of the winery and sample some of the local wine. When we entered the winery, we were told that the next tour would be in a few minutes and to wait. The tour time came and went and no staff notified us that the tour was beginning. I waited a while to get the attention of a staff member who stated that we just missed the first 5 minutes of the movie and to head up stairs into the theater. Once upstairs, there were at least 15 people waiting to "get in." We decided to go down to the tasting area to see if we could sample wines. We were somewhat rudely notified that the "tastings" are only allowed following the tour and that the current tour was full and that we needed to wait until the next tour. We decided to leave at that point as it was very unclear what time the next tour was and really did not want to buy any wines without trying. We left feeling very disappointed as our group was looking forward to tasting some wine!

“Excellent Tour & Tasting”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

This is the best winery tour and wine tasting in the Southeast. Tours and tastings are held continuously all day and the best part is that it is all complimentary. Of course, after sampling their delicious wines, you will not be able to walk away empty handed. I purchased three bottles on this visit.

Your visit begins with a short film on the history of the owners and how they got into wine making. The tour then explains more about the wine making process and guests are taken behind the scenes where they see how the wines are made. Interesting tidbits of history are interspersed throughout the tour. Upon completion of the tour, guests are invited to sample seven different wines. The host explains the different ingredients and notes of each wine and which foods go best with each wine. The portions are generous and add up to about a glass and a half of wine when all is said and done. Many of the wines are award winning and quite tasty.

“The Cellar Upstairs - Rooftop Jazz Bar at the Winery”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

This is our favorite stop in St. Augustine! Besides the great wine, we discovered last year while celebrating our anniversary the Cellar Upstairs. A beautiful rooftop wine and beer bar under the stars with live jazz bands and a delicious light menu. We ordered our favorite bottle of San Sebastián wine and a meat and cheese platter that came with a fresh baked baguette, olives. Etc. The music and atmosphere were wonderful! We went back this weekend and were worried about the cold weather, but they were prepared with outdoor heaters and have an indoor area set-up as well. We were not disappointed! Highly recommend you check it out on our next trip. I think they now serve lunch as well!

“RUDE”
Reviewed February 19, 2013 via mobile

We have wanted to visit the winery and take the tour the last four times we've been to St. Augustine and always run out of time. We were excited when we pulled up today and walked in. Our excitement turned to disappointment as we encountered the rudest staff ever! We turned around and walked out. They need to take a lesson from the Biltmore Estate. We're not huge wine drinkers but because of the welcoming staff, informative tour and wonderful atmosphere...we left there with over $600 of wine! SO DISAPPOINTED IN THIS PLACE.

“Great Visit!”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

We had been here before but they changed the way they do the wine tasting since we had been. Before it was the traditional stand at a bar and try wines. Now it was more like a wine tasting and tour. It was kind of cool! We talked to different people who told us about the different wines and stories as well as suggestions on what to eat with each wine. They were all very friendly and knowledgeable about the wine and St Augustine. Most even new of other wineries in Florida and talked about them as well which was cool since we live in Florida. It was a very enjoyable experience. We will of course be back on our next trip to St Augustine.
