“Part of the treasure that is St Augustine”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

On a nice spring day this is a great place to stroll and get away from the bustle of the shopping. We ate lunch there and watched the kids play.

“So Peaceful and Calming”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

We discovered the Mission's gift shop last year but never walked the grounds. There is a small stone chapel inside the ancient cemetery, a large cross that can be seen from the street, and sprawing grounds to the water. There are historical monuments throughout the grounds and walking the paths by the toomstones is very calming and so interesting to read. We also toured the new Museum on the grounds. We were there when the new Pope was elected and that town was beyond themselves with pride. The town is basede on Catholic Spanish culture and the English were the enemy throughout. Children would be bored - only older adults can appreciate this experience.

“A peaceful place”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

You can't miss the 200-foot cross standing at the back of this old mission. The chapel has Eucharistic Adoration and is a votive only chapel. There is a small history center, as well. I was most fascinated with the old cemetery and the shrine to Our Lady of La Leche. The shrine is covered in moss and such a quaint little place for prayer. There is also a gift shop with many religious selections. It's free to visit and another must see in St. Augustine.

“Paradise in the Center of St Augustine”
Reviewed March 7, 2013

From the time you cross the beautiful arc bridge and are drawn to the gigantic cross that can be seen for miles up and down the river, to the actual small Mission, you have a feeling you are in a very place. The gardens are gorgeous and change with the seasons. The vine covered Mission with it's primitive interior gives the visitor an appreciation for what the early Christians faced. Take time to sit and meditate a little as you wander through the pristine gardens. There is a small gift shop with some nice items done in good taste. It is a photographer's dream as is most of St Augustine...another must see.
