“Beautiful location”

Loved sitting on the deck by the water. Waitress was not so hot. After originally ordering iced tea, my friend only received water and did not get her tea till I made a point of bringing it up. No complaints with either of our meals - excellent food.

“Perfect place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2013

We were on our way back home but spent the night in St. Augustine. Our hotel front desk told us we had to go here. He was so right. It was our anniversary so we hoped it would be a good place for some quiet time. Drove into the parking lot and it was packed. Thinking not gonna be very quiet. And how long would we have to wait for a table? Walked up to the hostess and she seated us right away. The reason - the place is huge! Lots of tables along the water. We got one of those and it was wonderful. Even with all the people, being outside seemed to make it quiet. No having to talk loud to be heard. Absolutely pleasant. Weather was perfect to sit outside. Watching the water and birds was so nice. The server was awesome. She recommended appetizers and main courses, but no pressure to order them. Drinks were made to perfection. So was the food. And no one made us feel like we needed to eat quickly so they could turn the table. That was probably one of the nicest parts - feeling like we could stay and relax. I would recommend this place to anyone going in that direction. Next time we're in St. Augustine, we know where we're going to have dinner! Just fantastic.

“Overrated”

The place was a cluster ****. Maitre' d tried to sit us in the blazing August sun at high noon. We asked to move and that's when the poor service began. Apparently, no one told the waiter that we were at a different table. Waited 1/4 hour for someone to come and get our drink order. Finally got up and went to bar looking for our first waitress. Gave her $10 to keep us from waiting any longer. Food took very long to arrive and was cooked wrong. Dry, dry, dry.

“Great place~”

Well worth getting to. The service is impeccable, food is good, atmosphere is excellent!
After meals, going over to the bar and hanging is very relaxing. Loved it here. Of course, we came off season so we had no issues with waiting and did make reservations. We had a table right by the water and it was just the perfect setting for romance. I would come back if ever in the area again.

“Excellent - but not worth two hour wait!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2013

We recently went to Caps for dinner. We arrived around 6:00 PM on a Sunday evening. We knew we wanted a table by the water, it's one of the reasons we choose the restaurant. So that was my request. The hostess informed us our wait would be two - two and a half hours. We accepted that, but like Inspector Cluso we followed the clues directly to the bar. We made one slow careful circle and there it was - our reward - a vacant table waiting for us in the bar area right on the water front. Carly, our server, announced that it was our lucky day!

We discovered that she was a very knowledgable and personable server. She was versed in Caps’ menu intricacies and in the midst of a very hectic Sunday evening crowd she demonstrated rather awesome ability to multitask and multi table serve. The evening was a splendid experience further enhanced by lots of boating activity and a glowing sun dipping into the evening clouds. My husband had oyster on the 1/2 shell, a 1/2 pound of peel and eat shrimp, both of which were excellent and fresh. I ordered flounder - thinking it was fish and chips. It arrived and it was a beautifully filleted Crusted Flounder filling the whole plate. Even though it came in it’s natural state with spine and bones somehow the chef had so cooked it that it was easy even for a novitiate like me. The flounder was perfectly prepared. It was flakey and mild in it’s flavor. Just right for a land lubber like me.
Obviously Caps is a “tourist must do” and the locals love it as well so it is always busy and often a long wait! It is worth a wait, especially for a water front table, I don’t think it is worth a two hour wait. Could they do something with reservations, I think so.....obviously they continue to get the customers without having to make changes to please the customer. But Caps is a local institution which continues to offer fine food and quality service and the management continues to require that customers march to the beat of their drum. So friends choose your music and dance to it.
