My wife and I discovered La Herencia our first day and made it our lunch stop thereafter. If you are an espresso fan, and I certainly am, their double espresso is to die for! Comfortable, friendly atmosphere and good service. On our next trip to St. Augustine it will be our first stop after unpacking.

Based upon reviews and fact that we love cuban food, we headed to La Herencia this past Monday, 12/28/2009. It is a small place and there was only one 4 top seated in the place. The waitress was very kind but revealed she was poorly organized and unfocused. It took about 10 minutes for her to get waters, tea and one bottle beer for our party of 7. It took another 10 minutes for her to finish taking the other table's order, which by body language looked like they had been waiting for some time. Then a man came in that spoke spanish and walked up the waitress and ordered for 5 people that wondered into the restraunt. We had still not ordered yet, but she became attentive to them. Their order went in first. Our order was finally taken (so we are 30 minutes into this already). The food for the 5 top came out about 10 minutes after they ordered, ours about another 35 minutes from that time. We all ordered sandwiches... there was no other order between the 5 top and ours. What the heck was the chef doing. When we asked what the hold up was the chef made nasty body language like "dont bug me". Then when our food started coming out, it was one plate at a time, with about 5 minutes between each plate. So the last person to get their food got it 35 minutes after I did (I was the first). You have got to be kidding me!!! Again, what the heck was the chef doing??? They were cuban sandwiches for gosh sake. Everything was already made, and oh by the way, who runs out of swiss cheese and has to use cheddar for a restaurant that specializes in cuban sandwiches? We had to run the waitress down for everything we needed. Again, very nice young lady but clearly unable to be the only source of service in the place. The food was good. It is just a shame that such sub-standard service ruined the experience. If the chef was the owner, then he really needs a dose of "shame on you" and if, hired, needs a swift kick in the pants. What was the chef doing? Hey Chef, no googling while at work!

It is a street side small place, not very noticable. But the food was excellent, tasty and the price is very reasonable.

We live in the general area, but had not stumbled upon this great restaurant before. It has a quaint atmosphere, extremely pleasant staff (family owned and operated,) and great inexpensive food. We both had one of the house specialties, desert, and beverages. With a generous tip for excellent service, our bill was $38. I can't wait to bring friends and visit again!

My wife and I are all ways in search of restaurant that is pet friendly. La Herencia Cafe has both out door seating so you can sit with your pet and great food, and to add to it they are super friendly. It gets better soon they will be expanding the side walk in front of the restaurant for even more out door seating. Wow awesome is that?
