We haven't been here in a few years, and now wish we had not neglected to come regularly when in the downtown St. Augustine area. The last time we were here the place was packed with lots of out of state tourists and there was a long wait for our table. Nothing wrong with lots of out of state tourists, but sometimes that atmosphere can detract from the memory of a good meal. This time the weather was cool, wet and windy outside and there was no wait for our table during a recent weekday noon hour.

We each ordered the half and half lunch, my wife chose the 1905 Salad and the Spanish Bean Soup. The salad was prepared at our table with a deft hand, and was a delicious combination of lettuce, meats, cheese and house dressing. The soup was a very flavorful offering, with the chorizo sausage providing a hearty base note. The Cuban Black Bean Soup and Cuban Sandwich I ordered was exactly what I was hoping for, bringing back memories of some of the best examples of each I enjoyed while exploring small family run places in South Florida where English is a second language, and the food as authentically Cuban as it gets.

For excellent food in a beautiful environment, with service that is almost flawlessly attentive, the Columbia is a great choice.

This was my first taste of Cuban, Spanish food. I wanted the Paella which I ended up sharing with my boyfriend. We ordered two tapas and with the bread which is so soft and delicious it was plenty.
The restaurant's version of paella was full of shrimp, scallops, mussels, calamari and the rice was so creamy. The service is very attentive and the atmosphere is beautiful. Even though the restaurant is big it still seemed charming and everything was fresh and wonderful.

Gorgeous building, nice atmospher, and fabulous food! We made reservations, as was suggested, and were seated immediately. Servers were very attentive. We all had fish which was delicious. I had a special dietary need and they were accommodating. Had the key lime pie for dessert...yum!
It was a perfect evening.

The restaurant is beautiful, the food is great, and the prices are reasonable. My favorite times to go are Thanksgiving and Christmas. They have a wonderful turkey dinner, but they also have their regular regular menu and to die for Cuban bread. Their seafood is especially good. Their black bean soup is tne best. They are also famous for their 1905 salad prepared at your table. Their wait staff are friendly and efficient. Portions are large enough to take home dinner for the next day.
