The French Bakery has a simple exterior, hidden in a small strip mall, with a few noted tables and chairs sitting outside. Stepping inside you will discover a clean and quaint cafe. You will probably be greeted with a smile from Catherine at the counter, who will kindly explain their menu. Then your order is delivered to your table. My usual breakfast order is their Combination of an Omelet Croissant with two fillings, a great cup of coffee ( No Starbucks please), and a choice of French Patisserie from the glass case on your right. It is full of Fresh Fruit Danish with the creamiest of custards used, Chocolate Croissants, and Apple Strudel to name a few. The glass case on your left, carries other delights like Eclairs,Meringue and Cream Petite Coffee or Chocolate Cakes, Fresh Fruit Tarts, Fresh Strawberry Napoleons and French Macaroons,a personal favorite. Remember, Tuesday the cafe is closed ,the other days it closes at 3PM. Such temptations , you will often view us locals, biking and walking to breakfast and lunch! ENJOY! ( Local since 1973)

Best breakfast spot in St. Augustine area period. What a wonderful French cafe. Ms. Catherine (owner/manager) is simply a wonderful person and the greatest smile to see when thirsty or hunger. The entire staff was smiling and eager to greet their patrons. The cafe and kitchen are small (seats about 40 tightly) and you have to order at the register but those two traits add to the novelty of the cafe. Our food is brought to your table within ten minutes (and there were at least thirty people in the cafe when we ordered) and deserves its own award. Hot, tasty, adult portions that will truly satisfy. Fresh ingredients and just outstanding pastries of all kind (they dont have madeleines YET). The menu is priced for an enjoyable experience.

Saw this reviewed on Trip Advisor so decided to try it. They close at 3:00 so it was about 1:00 when we arrived. The pastries in the desert case looked sooooo good but we wanted lunch. I ordered the chicken salad on a croissant but was told out of croissants. How's a French bakery ever out of croissants?my sweetie had a "Mountain" crepe which was suggested by a customer. It was really good with small chunks of potatoe, ham, bacon and cheese.
We each got a desert. I had a mixed fruit tart and she had a chocolate croissant. Really good and what would be expected of a French bakery.
The young lady that waited on us acted like she would rather be elsewhere and I guess I looked poor because she made it emphatic there was a $2 up charge for the tart.
Still, it tasted pretty good.

Our first experience at this local eatery. I understand they moved from the Old City on San Marco Blvd. Breakfast, lunch, desserts and pastries. My wife had the salmon crepe and I had the sausage/bacon crepe with egg. We both enjoyed our crepe which was very large averaging $10.00. Seating for about 40 and around 1:00 PM there were approx 17 customers. Order at the counter and food will be brought out to your table. Not the fastest service as there is only one person cooking. If there were 30 customers service would have been backed up. This was Saturday. Large variety of French Pastries looked delicious. My wife enjoyed her eclair.
Open 7:00. - 3:00 closed Tuesday

Food: delicious. Value: excellent, Atmosphere: clean and appealing. Service: a little slow. We live close by and will return!

Don't let the outside appearance of this restaurant fool you- it is far superior to any breakfast spot anywhere in St. Augustine or N Florida. Delightful pastries, delicious crepes. Pleasant atmosphere; just all around delicious. Breakfast was such a treat we had to get food to go for snacking on later in the day. We will go back routinely.
