“Nice”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

Hotel was clean and efficient. Front desk clerk (born and raised in the area) was very helpful. Hotel says it is within walking distance to historical district, but it was too far to walk there, walk around and shop for hours AND then walk back. Great breakfast! 12.95 all you can eat.

Thank you for your splendid review. I will happily let the desk and housekeeping personnel know they did an excellent job for you. I am sorry to hear about the walk to and from the historic district being a bit stringent. Finally, I am happy to see that you enjoyed the breakfast buffet. Take care and please visit us again.

Everything about this place has great curb appeal. It looks good on line. It looks good in person. But then it goes down hill. The front desk staff was great, as was the ladies who waited on us in the restaurant. But...our rooms were not ready at check-in (no biggie), but when we did get in our rooms we pulled down the covers and found crumbs and hair. I talked to the people at the front desk and they apologized and sent house keeping back up. Evidently they had to tell them twice before they came and we watched as they stripped off the first bed and began making it up. It's all good now, so we thought, until we came back that night and realized they had not changed the other bed after we walked out. We now had to change our own bed. The hotel gave up comps for their breakfast for the next couple of days. The hair dryer feel off the wall, the WIFI was always unavailable, and the hot tube was warm but blowers didn't work. Not going back.

I appreciate you taking the time to give us your point of view. Overall, I see that we did not do the best we could have during your visit. I deeply apologize for the issues with housekeeping. Also, I will pass along the good word you gave us for the desk and breakfast personnel. Thank you again and have a great day.

My girlfriend and were vacationing in Florida, and stopped in St. Augustine. The man at the desk when we got there, I believe his name was Miles, was very knowledgeable and helpful. The location is about 1/2 mile from the main tourist area, so not bad for a little walk to get the blood flowing. We had a king room with a jacuzzi, spectacular. If I'm ever back in St. Augustine I will stay there again.

We stayed over Easter weekend. Room was not quite ready at check-in, but not too long beyond 4:00 p.m. they had us a room. It was clean and adequate for our needs. Bathroom was on the small side, and so was the closet, once clothes are hung it is difficult to slide the door closed without smashing your shirt! We were disappointed that the pool was not heated and the "hot tub" didn't seem to be working either. People were just hovering around it and putting their feet in but when we attempted to turn it on we got nothing. They should've had a sign posted to indicate it was not working so that was disappointing. We decided to splurge on breakfast on Easter morning and several of the waitresses just looked at us and ignored us while we stood by the "please wait to be seated sign". When someone finally sat us, we were surprised how expensive the breakfast was at $12.99 pp unless you want cold/continental which was $8.99. A bit steep but we were already there and it would've been awkward to get up and walk across the street to Denny's. The walk into town from the hotel isn't terrible, but it's just not terribly close. Next time we visit the area I think we will stay elsewhere.

A great and quiet location in a generic chain hotel close enough to the old town and sights to walk or even closer to the sightseeing trolley base. A good value stay but don't take the breakfast option as it's rubbish and should be passed up even if it was free. Pick up breakfast along San Marco Avenue as it's way cheaper and almost anything would be better.

Location is a little bit of a walk to where all the shops are at but we used the car to get everywhere anyways. Rooms are clean. Staff are friendly. Just had the breakfast buffet (still staying at hotel as I write this). I've got to say, not bad. We prepaid for the breakfast so it came out to be $8 for adults and kids eat free. You'd spend a lot more and eat a lot less at Denny's next door.

Overall, good value for location.

We just left the Holiday Inn Express in St. Augustine, FL on Ponce de Leon. We booked our one night stay through the hotel and received our AAA discount. The room was fine. We read that this hotel gives you a free breakfast. We read on their website. We did NOT receive a free breakfast because we received an AAA discount. The breakfast cost $12.99 each....We were told this after we had our juice, coffee and cereal. CHECK FIRST. The same thing happened to the three tables around us...eat and then then charge you. Very disappointed with the the lack of communication.

On behalf of the entire staff I apologize for any misunderstanding regarding breakfast. Our breakfast is indeed a full service breakfast, and we have a couple of rates on our website where a future guest may prepurchase the breakfast at a discounted price. I will be more than happy to review the wording to prevent any future miscommunications on the matter. Also, thank you for taking the time to pass along your positive experiences at our hotel. Take care and have a great day.
