“What a gem!”
Reviewed April 29, 2011

What a nice place to stay! Everything was new, clean and we had no issues. The rooms were nicely appointed, everything was clean and the beds were really comfy. We snacked at the freebie breakfast. Sort of typical morning munchies with a nice roomy breakfast room with lots of tables. Gentleman who was restocking the breakfast area did a good job keeping up with the crowd.

Didn't use the exercise area or the computer room. My kids enjoyed the indoor pool. There is no outdoor pool. Parking, check in/out was no problem.

This hotel was particularly nice because it's actually outside of the hub of St. Augustine. Some of those in-town places had bad reviews and you have to pay to park. The Holiday Inn Express was about a 10 minute drive to the Castillo de San Marcos area, which was our first stop.

We def recommend this to anyone!

After a 9-day college road trip with no advance reservations, I became completely dependent upon this website for guidance and vowed I would also help fellow travelers in return. We made the mistake of going around closer in-town first on a Saturday night only to find that all the hotels (except the pricey one costing about $400 a night) in the downtown historic area were booked. We started making our way back out to the highway after getting the internet and checking around a bit on hotel reviews. I would still say that seeing a room and the property is always the best way to judge. You can't always go by name brand itself. We had seen other hotels on this highway that were motel-style with outside entrances (not a fan), and which had room that were downright scary looking inside. By the time we arrived here it was close to midnight and the night manager Dean was just great! In fact, I am writing this review mainly to offer him my Kudos for pleasantly accommodating us and at a price we felt was fair. And, what a surprise it was to get more than I expected from the Holiday Inn Express name!. The room was just terrific. We ended up with a king bed room with sleeper couch because that was all that was available at that hour. The bed was roomy and comfortable and everything was clean and in good condition. If you don't end up at the beach or in town or just want to save a little on the room rates this is a great place to try. Only gets 4 overall because you wouldn't pick it for the location (highway, not near attractions, etc.) if I could have gotten a place in-town or at the beach for the same price in advance, and it is of course, by design, not a full-service restaurant-type hotel. However, it certainly is tops for what it is and compared to the other nearby properties--some of which did not live up to their brand name reputations. We just slept, shower & grabbed something to eat and left early for our destination in town.

Stayed three nights here while visiting Saint Augustine during Spring Break. Rooms were clean and well maintained. Since as others have posted the hotel is relatively new. The breakfast and coffee was good. Nothing out of the ordinary. The breakfast area had lots of table and room. The pool was indoors and had a large shallow end for kids. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would stay here again. Within 15 minute drive to historic downtown Saint Augustine.

Being from north florida, i stay in st. Auggie alot. I normally stay in the higher end B & B's downtown, but for a last minute surprise booking (and to shop) this is perfect. The hotel is a 2 min drive to the outlets and 10 min from downtown, and 15 to the beaches. It is decorated very nicely, modern, and VERY CLEAN. The rooms are decent size, and the bed was comfy (i was five months pregnant, and slept like a dream), nice bathroom, ok towels. Service was lovely and friendly both at the front desk and the poor girl i dropped my muffin on while i was grabbing breakfast, A+.
Cons, the entrance is goofy and u have to u turn to get in, the doors to the room were very heavy, parking is also minimal, and the breakfast items were so-so (but as i said well stocked and CLEAN). Overall a good value, i will def use this hotel again.

A very nice Hi Express right off I-95 adjacent to Premier Outlet Malls and 10-15 minutes from the St Augustine tourist district. Our room was great -roomy, flat-screen tv, nice bathroom etc. The breakfast offerings were the standard HIE rotating choices which are normally pretty good as these were. Would highly recommend if the short drive to the historic district is not a problem or as a stopover off I-95. Next stop Pensacola FL.

We spent 4 nights here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It is located just off I-95 and about a 15-minute drive into St Augustine. Our room was clean, quiet and comfortable. The breakfast was the standard HI Express Breakfast, but the staff kept the food well-stocked and the dining room clean up to the very last minute. The dining room only has about 10 tables and a long bar with stools--this might be an issue for folks who visit during the high-tourist season and weekends when the place is fully booked, but it wasn't a problem when we were there. Our room had comfy beds with plenty of pillows; a microwave & fridge; wi-fi; a decent flat-screen TV and plenty of space. It was cleaned promptly, without any issues. They have a heated indoor pool (no spa) which was clean and well-stocked with towels. We only encountered one very minor issue--our room safe was locked when we arrived. We called down to the desk, and a maintenance guy showed up in a few minutes to take care of it lickity-split. The hotel is situated right near a couple big outlet malls (if shopping is your thing); and there are plenty of food places nearby. All the staff were pleasant and cooperative. This place is the gold-standard for the HI Express chain (and I've been to many) and I give this HI & its staff my highest praise. If you want to be smack-dab in the middle of St Augustine, then this is not the place for you--but if you want a clean, comfortable, well-run, reasonable hotel with a quick hop on & off the I-95 as you come and go...then book-this Danno!
